HILL: What does "S.H.I.E.L.D" stand for Agent Ward?

A few people cheer screaming: HILL!

WARD: Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division.

HILL: And what does that mean to you?

Yelena leans over to Kate: Someone really wanted to spell out shield.

Kate lets out a little laugh

WARD: It means someone really wanted our initials to spell out "SHIELD".

Kate laughs a little harder at the repetition.

Tony grinning: That is what I said.

Hill gives him a look.

Peter: She looks very unimpressed by that answer.

A couple people nod agreeing with the kid.

* Sigh*

It means we're the line.... between the world and the much weirder world. We protect people from news they aren't ready to hear. And when we can't do that, we keep them safe. Something turns up... [takes alien tech out of pocket] like the chitauri neural link... [slides it across the table to Hill] we get to it before someone bad does.

Steve nods his head approvingly at this explanation.

HILL: Any idea who Vanchat was planning to sell it to? [Hill gets up and starts to walk around]

WARD: I'm more interested in how the Rising Tide group found out about it. I thought they were just hackers. What changed?

Tony: Oh those guys have gotten important information out in the world. Smart group of hackers, but very annoying.

Pepper: You are only annoyed because one of them hacked Stark Industries and you could never find out who it was.

Clint: Oh I definitely want to meet this person.

HILL: A little while ago, most people went to bed thinking that the craziest thing in the world was a billionaire in a flying metal suit. Then aliens invaded New York and we were beaten back by, among others, a giant green monster, a costumed hero from the 40's, and a god.

Shuri: She really made a good description of you guys.

Yelena: Yup but she forgot they are also all posers. [grinning madly]

Everyone loudly: NO WE ARE NOT!

Natasha rolls her eyes and hits her sister on the arm.

WARD: I don't think Thor is technically a god.

HILL: Well you haven't been near his arms.

Everyone laughs at this.

The battle of New York was the end of the world. This... now.... is the new world. People are different. They have access to tech, to formulas, secrets they're not ready for.

WARD: Why was I pulled out of Paris?

HILL: That, you'll have to ask Agent Couslon.

All the OG avengers have an angry look on their face.

Steve: What is she playing at? Coulson is dead.

Tony: Yah thanks to reindeer games over here. [giving Loki a death stare]

WARD: Uh, yea I'm clearance level six. I know Agent Coulson was killed in action before the battle of New York. Got the full report.
