William likes Masayoshi. He's sure of it.
But she definitely hates him.
"Stop dropping the papers, you moron."
"Sorry..."
"Its..." She swallowed thickly and placed the last paperwork in a file. This would be her monthly report, leaving out the small details on how a pirate was docked on the island and peacefully walking around wherever he wants to.
Masayoshi rather die than tell that to her father, because she knows for a fact that he was disappointed. The small reassurance she was going to offer the aurum eyed boy stopped just as she bit her tongue, ignoring the twisting feeling in her chest as he frowned slightly. "It's whatever. You should leave now."
With a nimble nod the boy squinted his eyes as if to see her face more clearly before lifting shaking hands to drop a few folders of papers onto her desk.
Once he turned around and had taken a few steps to the door, Williams shoulders suddenly squared and he puffed his cheeks in anger while seeming to contemplate something.
Wondering why he wasn't gone, the young marine captain expressed her thoughts only to widen her eyes in shock as a hand wrapped around her marine cloak and pulled her off of her chair.
Then suddenly, she found herself watching the sunset.
"Hey... Masa?"
A fleeting look expressed the distaste she held for the nickname, but without knowing, the captain had hummed in a response.
"Can you do something for me... when I die...?"
She thought about it. "No."
He huddled his knees close to his chest. "Oh, okay."
And then she thought about it again. "...What is it?"
William knew she would accept.
The wind blew the golden strands of hair out of his eyes and the sunset made his face look golden.
Masayoshi didn't realize it but her eyes had widened slightly and she was staring at the lad with astonishment, the way his eyes seemed to sparkle like the stars and the way his hair flowed softly against his head was so soothing that she found herself letting her guard down, completely.
For the first time in her life, Masayoshi felt what it was like to truly relax even if for a few moments.
"Can you put sunflowers on my grave?"
Thump.
'A difficult request for me to meet...' Her pupils dilated as she ignored the abrupt and piercing pain in her chest. 'but why sunflowers?'
When her mouth opened to offer a response she hesitated. Would... her father approve of this? For once, Masayoshi really didn't know. She needed to make this decision based on her own opinions and despite her mind telling her to refuse, something else urged and prompted her to do the exact opposite.
So she accepted, unconsciously bringing her hand up to place a piece of his medium length hair behind his ear and she could swear her lips twitched upwards.
A bright hue of red that William hoped she would mistaken as a result of the setting sun crossed his features and painted the tips of his ears red.
Not even Masayoshi seemed to notice, something else on his face capturing her attention and the intense stare only made him feel even warmer. His heart felt as though it was beating outside of his rib-cage and William feared that his crush could hear it.
"You glow like the sun..." She muttered, stroking his cheek with a gentleness he knew she had. "even when it has set and the sky has darkened, you remain."
"Masayoshi..." He whispered, bringing his hand up with what little strength he had when she met him half way and surprised him by fitting her palm in his own. "I lied, I need you to promise me something again."
Her mouth moved without her permission.
"Okay."
And William gave that toothy smile of his, leaning to drop his head on her shoulder and close her eyes. For a few moments Masayoshi stared out into the distance watching as the faintest light finally disappeared along with the thoughts she had been pondering on.
With a sigh that was nearly inaudible, an arm slipped under Williams back while the other under his knees so she could carry him bridal style.
But when her skin made contact with his own, Masayoshis brows furrowed in reluctant concern and suddenly her feet were moving faster towards the bar.
Surely Alfred could help William, it must just be a fever, right?
She'd forgotten he was sick in just mere moments... he truly was amazing.
The skin against her own was burning, his heart-beat had hastened and a headache seemed to be bothering him by the sounds of his small groans and the way his eyebrows furrowed.
Her little comment about him resembling the sun wasn't so appealing anymore.
Thanks everyone.
