Y/N POV
If I wasn't irritated before I certainly was now. I had lost Shinji when we were strolling through one of the many markets the festival had to offer.
A child had shot past us almost smashing into right me as she bolted and immediately after I was almost run over by a child, I was almost run over by a large group of people that seemed to be trying to catch the girl. I was forced to jump backwards, out of the way and when they and the ensuing crowd of bystanders had passed us Shinji was nowhere to be seen.
I wasn't actually worried at the time, thinking I should be able to find him shortly but soon realized that this festival was much larger than I predicted. I had texted him to ask where he was, and he replied almost instantly, instructing me to meet him by the main entryway
I didn't know exactly how to get there but I knew its general direction. I stuck to the main paths as much as possible, avoiding people along the way. Now it only seemed I could get there if I took a left through an alleyway up ahead.
"As if someone's gonna be lurking around in a festival alleyway." I mused to myself.
I rounded the concrete corner and my mood quickly shifted from amused to panicked as I saw a girl, her head bloodied and, on her knees, trying to raise herself to her feet. I saw it happening in slow motion and shot straight forward fortunately managing to catch her descending head before it hit the concrete.
Using my right arm to support her head I used my free one to shift her body into a sitting position, propping her up against the wall.
I had learned how to identify and tend to injuries of most caliber so from having a quick glance at her wounds and the terrain it was safe to assume a board had fallen from the alleys roof and hit her.
"God, that's a good twenty to twenty-five meters of travel time I'm surprised she's still conscious."
I checked her pulse, stable. I checked her reflexes, positive. I moved to check her orientation positioning my finger in front of her nose.
"Follow my finger, okay?" I instructed as I began to wave it from side to side.
Her eyes did not follow which worried me, she could be in shock from the sudden impact, but I checked her pulse and from judging her weight it seemed to be normal.
It seemed that the bleeding to her head had somewhat halted so that was one ailment taken care off. Taking my eyes of her injury I looked back down at her face and my eyes widened.
It was the same girl from last night! No doubt about it, her hair her body structure, her scent it was the same girl. This would add another variable to the fray and perhaps a beneficial one.
"She lives in the same apartment block as I do." I concluded
To some this may mean nothing but to me, a person who was completely capable of treating her wounds whether with magic or without. It meant I could take her back with me and monitor her without the hassle of the hospital. I didn't even know if she had medical insurance so best save her the potential costs when I can just handle it myself, free of charge and once morning came, I could deliver her back to wherever she needed to go.
I pulled out my phone and messaged Shinji. "Call yourself a cab, I'll explain later it's an emergency." I finished typing out.
Her previously drowsy eyes had finally surrendered to unconsciousness and were shut tight. As long as her pulse and head injury stayed idle, I'd be completely capable of handling her magic free.
I sighed and, using both my arms picked her up bridal style. Turning to my previous destination I wandered out of the dusty alley and rounded the corner just as the sound of fireworks shattered the sky.
