I knew I should've told everyone the truth, but I couldn't. The truth is I want a family, but not just any family I want a family with her. So I took a flight, and held on to hope that it wasn't to late.
Chapter 2
The team was set, everyone headed out to their cars, they all received a message with the location in it. Jay and Hailey headed out first then the rest of the team followed behind. Hailey looked over at Jay and noticed his stern look. The only thing that was going through Jay's mind was arriving on the scene to see Shawn's body. He sympathized for the mother, cause if it was his child he wouldn't be able to handle it. He felt his heart ripped out of his body, he wanted to rush through this case to get it over with. The longer they waited the more he felt bad, this women had to go to sleep that night knowing her son wasn't. He gripped the steering wheel even harder, as he kept replaying the scene in his head.
Hailey could tell something was on his mind, but she didn't want to push him away so she waited. She reached for his hand, and instead of jerking it away he allowed her to comfort him. He wasn't yet ready to tell her let alone anyone else what was going on. He still had a lot to figure out.
When they arrived at the location Roger took off running, Hailey jumped out of the car as well as Adam. They chased the suspect down the alley way. The team was able to apprehend the suspect, but not without a fight. Adam ended up with a split lip and a bruised eye. As they headed back to the station Hank had already had Shawn's father in interrogation. He was able to get more evidence and a complete motive for why he attacked Roger.
In the other interrogation room Jay was talking to the suspect. Jay was able to get a full confession without beating the crap out of him. It was so hard for Jay to hold his restraint but he knew he couldn't risk jeopardizing this case.
"So Roger said a few weeks back Shawn's father attacked him for passing by the park and looking at the kids. They yelled insults but later that night they came to his house and dragged him outside. They publicly humiliated him, he attacked back by getting Shawn. He said he's talked to Shawn before that day. This wasn't the first time Shawn had sold candy in the neighborhood.
"Okay, so no one saw that the 6 year old boy was talking to a registered sex offender? Let alone walking the streets alone selling candy by himself?"
"I say we arrested and charge both parents as well. The mother for child endangerment, and the father battery assault. I always say people just don't deserve kids, like how could you let a 6 year walk the neighborhood by himself."
"I don't understand either! Go read the father his rights, and Kim and Kevin go pick the mother up."
The team started to work on their paperwork while Roger and Shawn's dad was getting processed. It didn't take long to bring Shawn's mother into custody. She likely won't serve jail time, but you never know.
Jay felt a sense of relief, he was able to get Justice for Shawn. This should've never happened, Jay needed to make a call. He needed a moment, so he stepped into to the break room and called his therapist
"I understand this case was a tough, I want you all to finish up all your paperwork. Then take the next two days off. Go grab a drink or whatever you all do."
"I will buy the first round!"
"I'm in, Kev you coming?"
"Yea, I'm in! Hails you coming?"
"Yea, I'm in! Jay?"
"Umm, I have do something first but I'm in."
"Jay, what do you have to do?"
"Don't worry about it, I'll be there tonight though."
"Fine, whatever!"
"What's with the attitude?"
"Me, You're the one always sneaking off. You've become super secretive, it's like we don't know you anymore."
"That rich coming from you, I've been secretive. You're the one holding secrets. The one time I say I need to put my mental health first it's a problem for you. I have to call and confirm an appointment with my therapist tonight, that's why I will be late. Your lies are messing with my life."
"What lies?"
"Kim it's nothing, I will talk to you at home?"
"I'm done talking, guys I'll meet you at Molly's later."
"Alright, we'll have that beer waiting for you!"
"HALSTEAD, MY OFFICE!"
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH YOU?"
"I'm fine!"
"Not when you're yelling at Hailey."
"This case was just more stressful than I imagined. I need time, I have an appointment with my therapist so I need to go."
"Why do I feel like your hiding something from me?"
"Nah, it was the other way around. I have to go now."
With that, Jay collected his things an left. The teamed watched him walked, but no one said anything. Hailey wanted to know what was going on, so she followed him. She didn't believe for a second that he was actually going to therapy.
He was driving towards the hospital, but then he made a left turn. She was slightly confused until he pulled into a hotel parking lot. She kept her distance as she watched him, he looked extremely happy when he walked into the hotel. She called his phone to see if he would answer, to her surprise he look at the call and declined. He sent her a text back saying he was currently in a session. If Hailey didn't see it for herself she would've believed him. Jay has never lied to her, she just didn't understand why he started now. She sat outside and continued to wait. It was almost 2 hours later when he eventually came out of the hotel. He had the biggest smile on his face.
-Hey, I'm heading to Molly's now, are you still coming?
-Yea, I just finished my therapy session I will be there shortly.
-Okay, see you there!
Hailey arrived at Molly's before Jay, so she was able to talk with the team without him knowing.
"Hey, guys!"
"Hey Hails, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, I'm fine!"
"Are you sure, cause your face is telling a different story."
"Would it happen to be about Jay?"
"Yea, He lied to me. He said he was going to therapy, but I followed him. He went to a hotel instead."
"Wait, so he lied and went to a hotel?"
"Yea, I tried to call him and he declined my call and sent me a message instead."
"What the hell was he doing at a hotel?"
"I don't know but he sure left there with a big smile on his face."
"So, you think he's seeing some else?"
"I don't know what to think anymore."
