After the skatepark ordeal, Y/n's first intention was to text Rai. She felt as if she could confide in her, and Rai always managed to make her smile.

"Break up with him, Y/n, please" She had said. "You don't deserve him!!"

And after hours of thought about her words, Y/n made a decision. A temporary break from Miya. She doubted that it would hurt much, since she had already been so distanced from him.

The next day, she took the bus to school with Rai, arms linked as they made their way inside the courtyard. The first thing Y/n saw was Miya and Luna, who were sharing a cinnamon bun together. 

Rai followed her glance and quickly turned. "You're ending it, right?"

Y/n nodded. "But later, and in private"

Rai sprouted a mischievous smile. She took Y/n's arm and slowly walked closer to Miya and Rai, stopping a few feet away from them but still in hearing distance.

"you're so gorgeous, y/n" She said loudly, tucking a piece of Y/n's hair behind her ear and reaching to hug her. 

Y/n laughed as they parted, subconsciously sneaking a look at Miya, who looked straight back at her in utter silence.

As they continued forwards, Luna made a comment. "Oh my gosh, you guys are SO cute!! Just like me and Miya" She giggled.

Rai protectively hooked arms with Y/n. "sure.." she said. 

"well, have a nice day" Y/n said, ending the conversation and leading her friend away. When out of range, rai began to question her.

"You think that made Miya jealous?"

"I would hope so, but I really don't fw him anymore. Gonna end things soon, i promise"

Rai smiled, squeezing her hand. "It's the right thing to do. Always thought girls made better partners than guys..🥱"

"hi guys, long time no see!" Tadashi smoothly joined their conversation, placing his bag against his chair.

"hi, tadashi!!" they shared a smile. "where've you been?"

"Really busy, with school and family stuff" He answered. "How's.. Miya?"

"Ending it soon, hopefully" rai answered for her. 

"are you sure?" asked tadashi. "i can talk to him for you"

"I'm sure. Better to get it over with" Y/n said. "thank you, though"

"any time"

With that, the bell rung, and the three began their math project yet again.

Y/n played with her hair as she waited for Miya to finish his classes and come out the door, where she would ambush him and ask to talk privately.

She hoped Luna wouldn't be with him - that would make things really awkward.

The doors opened. Miya. 

Y/n realized she had been dreading this. Very much so, in fact. She began to approach him. To her delight, Luna was no where to be seen.

"Miya" She said, falling in step with the boy. He grasped his skateboard in one hand, the other one stuffed in his pocket.

He looked down. "hey"

"Can we talk? Alone? Please?"

Miya finally looked up. His eyes met hers, big and innocent looking. She felt her heart squeeze, but she had to do it. 

"Alright" He finally said. They stopped at a nearby bench below a tree, and an awkward silence fell upon them as neither wanted to speak.

"Listen, Miya" Y/n looked away. "I understand the whole luna is your best friend thing, and that you should totally spend time with her.. However, I feel like because of this we have barely socialized within the past few weeks and it's always awkward between us. So.. I don't think this is going to work out. Let's just.. take a break, okay?"

She waited for Miya's response. She was really starting to feel hot in her large hoodie.

Miya's hands clasped his skateboard tighter. "I understand"

"I'm sorry" she said. she wondered if Miya even felt sad, or if he was secretly relieved that he could now freely play around with Luna without feeling guilt. "See you around" Y/n stood, and without looking back, she walked away.

And once she was out of view, she cried.
