Chapter 25 - Last First Year

For that past school year everyone laid low, nothing really happened after Elizabeth's death. Michael started to come out again after that night and your group did their typical hangouts at the park, arcade or the mall and that was really it. But now, it's the beginning of the 1986-1987 school year- your senior year. Who knows what'll go down...

1st day of school, 1986

*HHOONNKKKKKK*

"ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT IM COMING GODDAMN" You close your front door and run down the steps. The sun is high in the blue sky which warms your skin, and the grass is wet with morning dew. Classic first day of school. Waiting for you in the street is Michael running a hand through his mullet in the mirror of his brand new car he got last week. A black station wagon with wood paneling on the sides. When you get in he dramatically turns his whole body to face you "You trying to make us late on our first day?"

"Oh shut it you say that every year, we have plenty of time" Laughing he turns up the volume to the radio. "Welcome to The Jungle" starts to blast through the speakers. Just as he reaches to put the car in drive, Henry comes up to the open car window with a camera. He leans an arm on the windowsill "Hold it. Let me get a picture. It's your first day of senior year. I have to." Before you can say anything Michael unbuckles and from behind you wraps both of his arms around your arms which makes them squish together and leans his head on the side of yours with a big smile. You put a hand on one of his arms and laugh at his dumb actions, knowing he's over exaggerating, you smile too. Henry takes the picture "Alright, perfect!! Have a good day you two!!" He backs away from the car and watches as Michael drives off. "God they're growing up so fast- too fast, it's like they were those two little five year olds in the diner just yesterday"

The hallways of the high school are buzzing with lost freshman, juniors who look like they want to die, yelling seniors, some people hugging, some people fighting already, and most people looking around for their friends, like you and Michael are. Though to your luck, your friend group is just as loud as always making them easy to find. "Y/N!!!" Astra yells running to you as soon as she sees you "Are you excited?!? It's SENIOR YEAR already!!! ugh we're getting so old" Her crimped hair bounces all over and she's wearing her usual bright makeup with a preppy outfit. "Some things just don't change"

"Yeah I know I can't believe it!!" The rest of the boys come over as well. "SENIOR YEAR BITCHES it's gonna be so good" Jermey yells coming up behind you and Michael wrapping his arms around you both. You all greet, talk and joke around until the bell rings.

Turns out Astra convinced the principal to get most of you guys in each others classes since he's her uncle and she just never told anyone until a few days ago when you're schedules came out, so you, Michael, Astra and Jermey all start heading to your first period class since you're all in there together.

The second the late bell rang the loudspeaker came on,
"Good morning and welcome back!" Everyone tunes out the rest of the announcements and talks to each other, so the four of you take that as an opportunity to start throwing crumpled paper and pens at each other from across the room while the teacher isn't looking. "And congratulations to our seniors- the class of 1987'! Hope you all have a wonderful last first year!" All of the seniors start to holler and clap at the ending of the announcements. "Last first year...already" you turn to look at Michael who's in the middle of getting ready to throw an eraser at Jermey with a devilish grin on his face. "And to think this now loud ass, stupid, bold seventeen year old use to be the shy boy who talked to nobody" Thinking back to how he use to sit in the corner with his dinosaurs you smile. He's come a long way.
