Rabbitspring's Fate

Chapter 2

Rabbitpaw and Maplepaw woke up to yowling in camp, Rabbitpaw looked out to see PhantomClan warriors attacking camp, Frongsong, Honeysplotch and Flurrysky were fighting off five warriors, trying to drive them out of camp. Rabbitpaw watched in horror as a black tom slit Honeysplotche's neck. Rabbitpaw and Maplepaw yowled and ran out of the den trying to help the queen, but it was too late for her and the light was faded from her eyes. Rabbitpaw turned to the PhantomClan warriors and with her claws unsheathed started fighting them with rage, she would jump up and down claw their sides, eyes and ears then when they were busy she would nip at their back legs. Rabbitpaw managed to drive off two warriors with nothing but a small nick on her left ear.

"That's what you get for killing Honeysplotch." Rabbitpaw hissed, Honeysplotch was like a second mother to her.

"Good job, Rabbitpaw." Hollystar mewed, padding up to her after the PhantomClan cats were gone, "And you haven't started your training yet, I'm proud of you, and I bet your mother and father are proud of you as well."

"Speaking of your training, we should start your battle training, I saw very few errors but the more battle moves you know the better you can defend your clan." The voice of Ravenfeather mewed, flicking her tail happily. Rabbitpaw smiled, grateful for her mentor's praise. Ravenfeather flicked her tail signalling for Rabbitpaw to follow her, where she was led to a clearing.

"Alright attack me." Ravenfeather mewed, Rabbitpaw nodded, crouching and stalked her mentor, then out of nowhere she pounced and looked for Ravenfeather's shoulder but landed beside her to trip her mentor then playfully nipped at her hind legs. Rabbitpaw ran in circles jumping on her mentor and playfully cuffing her over the ear, then pinned her mentor to the ground.

"That was good, you rushed at me so I didn't have time to think, that's good. Now I'll give you a fight, but claws will be stealthed." Rabbitpaw nodded padding to the other side of the clearing then she whipped around and ran at Ravenfeather, her mentor moved out of the way and Rabbitpaw scratched her paw on her side, with her claws stealthed. Rabbitpaw then pounced up, leaping on her mentor as she pinned her mentor to the ground she playfully cuffed her ear,

"I win!" she smiled. Ravenfeather nodded, getting up,

"We'll head back to camp, you're great at fighting, but remember, being a warrior isn't all about fighting, you must use fighting as a last resort only when cats won't listen to reason, then you can use your claws." Rabbitpaw nodded following Ravenfeather back camp.

Tigerpaw, Rainpaw, and Fallenpaw were huddled together in the cold wind. Tigerpaw looked at Rabbitpaw and nodded. Heat flashed through Rabbitpaw's pelt. Rabbitpaw picked up a thrush and sat over by the apprentices' den where the wind couldn't blow in her face. Tigerpaw then padded over to her with a smile,

"I heard you fought off two PhantomClan warriors all by yourself!" He smiled, "I couldn't even do that and I have a moons more of training, good job, Rabbitpaw." Rabbitpaw nodded, her pelt feeling hot, even when the wind changed direction and blew at her,

"Thanks, I still have to work on my battle moves though..." she mewed quietly, but loud enough for Tigerpaw to hear her.

"You'll definitely get better, but I don't know if you need to get better, you're pretty good." Tigerpaw smiled, sitting down beside Rabbitpaw. Rabbitpaw nodded, finishing her thrush.

"If you want I could teach you how to hunt, we could go right now." Tigerpaw smiled.

"Really! Of course." Rabbitpaw smiled, following Tigerpaw out of camp. Tigerpaw then stopped and pounced into some bushes and came back with a mouse dangling from his jaws,

"Wow! Nice catch!" Rabbitpaw smiled. Tigerpaw nodded,

"You try." Rabbitpaw nodded, doing an almost perfect hunting crouch, hearing a sound in the bushes. She pounced into the bush and caught a squirrel, she turned around with a smile.

"Good catch, Rabbitpaw." Tigerpaw smiled, "Let's bring the prey back to camp."

Rabbitpaw smiled as Hollystar called a meeting, she knew this was Tigerpaw's warrior ceremony and couldn't wait to yowl his new name. Rabbitpaw and Tigerpaw had grown close in the last five moons, they had trained together, hunted together, even doing some battle training together, and Rabbitpaw would always win.

"Tigerpaw step forward." Hollystar mewed, "I, Hollystar, leader of MapleClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. He has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in his turn. Tigerpaw, from this day on you will be known as Tigerwhisker, AuroraClan will honour your strength and your courage, and we will welcome you as a full warrior of MapleClan." Hollystar pressed her muzzle to Tigerwhisker's head, as he licked her shoulder in respect. Rabbitpaw smiled yowling Tigerwhisker's new name louder than the other cats. Tigerwhisker then smiled at Rabbitpaw and padded up to her, licking her between her ears.

"After I'm done with my vigil, want to go hunting with me?" Tigerwhisker asked Rabbitpaw. Rabbitpaw felt her pelt become warmer and nodded,

"Sure! I can show you that I've gotten better the last time we've hunted together."
