dia's fit!!
chapter seven
she saw her
before she saw anything else in the room
Living independently wasn't as fun as Diaphanous had hoped. She had expected it to be lively, full of experiences and memories she would make with her new friends. Her life is the complete opposite. She now spends her weekends either crying over homework, or binge-watching Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir with her trusty Cheez Itz.
Seeing as there is no one to make sure Diaphanous is staying healthy and happy, she decides to take things into her own hands. She makes sure to go on runs-which aren't as bad as she had thought- and prepares meals that serve her and Nico proteins to get them through the soul-sucking exams and homework they are given on a daily basis.
It is Saturday, and Diaphanous decides to become productive today. Putting on a lace top with some light wash jeans, she dons on her brown Converse and leaves the apartment. She quickly leaves the musty dusty apartment building that honestly gives her the creeps, she tries to make her way out of her sketchy neighborhood as fast as she can and towards the safer part of town.
She strolls down the sidewalk, occasionally stopping to pet the cute dogs and cats. Stopping at the second-hand bookstore she passed by on her first day of school, Andy's Bookmark, she walks into the bookstore. The scent of warm coffee and cinnamon envelops her into a warm hug, coating her with a feel of safety. She walks up to the cashier, where an old man seems to be... asleep? Diaphanous panics. Should she awaken him? Luckily, the man seems to be a light sleeper. He snorts and sits upright, putting on his thin-wired glasses and smiles warmly at Diaphanous.
"Hey, Hun, what can I do for you?" His voice is soft and seemingly full of care. Diaphanous, flushed under the attention given to her, speaks. "There was a sign outside, saying 'Help Needed!'. Do you still offer any jobs?" Her voice is hopeful. "Yes! Here's a form, and if you're willing, we could set up an interview somewhere around noon?" He hands her a packet placed in a folder, and smiles.
"Thank you," She nods, and makes her way out of the store. "Have a nice day!" She calls out as she walks through the doors. She walks towards a coffee shop, and stands in line to order breakfast. As she sits down, she starts to fill out the form. Placing it back into the folder it was given in, she places it into her tote bag and finishes the remains of her chocolate croissant, making sure to leave a tip in the jar.
It has neared noon, and Diaphanous is nervous. She wrings her hands and walks back into the bookstore, a small smile on her face. "You're early! A good quality," Andy smiles. Diaphanous lets out a small laugh as she is led to a tiny round table with four seats.
Andy clears his throat. "Well, I- uh wasn't really sure what to ask so...why do you want this job?"
Diaphanous squares her shoulders, "Books have always been a source of comfort to me, so when I saw the sign, I couldn't help but take this chance."

Diaphanous walks out of the bookstore, a smile bright on her face. Once rounding the corner, she pumps her fist, yelling a quick "Woo!" and smiling. She walks past a flower stand, and decides to spoil herself. She had gotten the job, after all. With a salary of $35 an hour, seeing as this is a popular bookstore with no workers but Andy.
Picking through her options, she decides on a pretty bouquet of pink tulips. Handing a bill to the cashier, and woman asks. "Special occasion?"
Diaphanous laughs, "I just got a job!" Congratulations leave the woman's mouth, as Diaphanous makes her way home for lunch.
