James has no idea how he got here. How did he go from sitting in his office to running up to Severus' doorstep and still end up in a pub with a large group of people.

It was madness.

" Y'know, if I'd known you would drag me into this I wouldn't have told you anything." Sirius said and took a long drag of his cigarette.

They were in the alleyway next to the bar, Sirius smoking and James questioning every life decision he made.

" I didn't think I'd chicken out like this."

" seriously how have you lost any skill you had at wooing people? It's crazy." Sirius coughed and James rolled his eyes.

" leave me alone. Some people dont date their best friend and get married to their high school sweetheart." He said bitterly but it just made Sirius laugh.

" yeah. We really are the it couple aren't we?" Sirius teased.

" shut up."

" you've liked him this long. Just confess, nothing stoppin you now." Sirius gestured and a terrifying thought ran across James' mind.

" what if i confess and he doesn't say yes?"

" then ya move on."

" what if he wants nothing to do with me anymore?" James asked and Sirius threw the cigarette butt to the floor and stomped on it with his boot.

" then you move on."

" i just got him back."

" look." Sirius grabbed his shoulders and threw him against the wall.

" you're the one who got yourself into this mess. Anyone from a 10 mile radius could see the idiot was in love with you but you got scared cuz you thought there could be someone else. If you're not gonna fix this, no one will." Sirius tried to talk some sense into him and it worked.

Even though the words were slurred from the three beers he had before going outside and James was tipsy from doing shots with lily, Sirius' words got through.

" you're right."

" damn fucking straight. Now go in there and if you don't tell him you love him im gonna smash your face into a plate of nachos." Sirius threatened and that somehow got through as well.

" alright alright, damn." James threw Sirius' hands off and walked with him back into the pub.

Their friends were sitting in the booth they left them in, conversing.

Severus looked just as happy without James than he did with him.

" hey." James said awkwardly as they came in earshot of the table.

" Guess what, Severus got asked out twice." Lily giggled drunkenly and Regulus snickered.

James' eyebrows rose in an awkward acknowledgement and he nodded.

" oh. Congrats. Were either of them cute?" He asked, trying to mask his discomfort.

" Um one. I don't wanna talk about it." Severus just brushed it off but Lily wouldn't let him.

" Honestly it's really impressive. He used to be a mean nerd in highschool and now look at him. He's drowning in numbers." Lily pat him on the shoulder.

" It was just twice."

Lily's eyebrow quirked up in an evil smirk and she laughed.

" oh? And tell me Sev, did you buy that drink yourself?" She asked.
