It's valentine's day, and Severus is very much fucked.

You see, a week ago when he made that bet with Regulus he was sure his friend would choose someone sensible. Someone who would forget the thing ever even happened and move on but no.

No no no. That wasn't what Regulus had planned.

Instead he chose the one person who would never live it down. He chose the guy who would make Severus' life a living hell once he did this.

" A deal is a deal." Regulus crossed his arms and Severus' fist clenched.

He had the letter in his hand, a howler that is supposed to go to James' room in the middle of the night with an impromptu confession. He didn't mean it, of course he didn't.

But it was either this or give Regulus 10 galleons and knowing he didn't have that kind of money, he obliged.

So the howler would go to James' room at exactly 12 o'clock, right when the needle strikes midnight and Valentines day officially starts.

He is going to kill Regulus.

" Fine." Severus said regretfully and sent the howler.

It would stay roaming around until it's required time, thirty minutes from now. And he was pretty sure the entire Gryffindor dorms were gonna hear Severus' voice very angrily tell him he likes him.

Along with the howler was a bag of chocolates which Severus was required to give. They were nice belgian chocolates, kind of expensive but if Severus was going to humiliate himself like this he might as well do something nice.

He walks back to his room, waiting the inevitable and almost wants to strangle himself so he doesn't have to face James tomorrow.

When midnight strikes he can hear a slight commotion from the gryffindor tower, making him even more uncomfortable. He groans into his pillow and covers his ears, hoping the letter burns up soon and he can just forget it ever happened.

The belgian chocolate will drop onto James' bed and the letter will be gone, never existed in the first place. The only proof will be the chocolates which is exactly why Regulus made him do it. Even bought the damn things to make sure Severus' confession has proof.

Eventually Severus sleeps, still worried about the day to come.

James almost has a heart attack when a howler barges into his room via the open window. He thinks it's his mother and is ready to be yelled at when the letter just screams a prompt " I like you" and burns up in the air.

He shoved his friends out of the room as soon as he saw the howler coming, locking the door and putting up a spell. So when the howler just yells that and drops a box of chocolates on his bed he's confused.

He isn't exactly sure who it is that sent the howler but when he looks at the chocolates there's a name on it.

From Severus.

His eyes almost bulge out of its sockets when he sees that and he throws a hand over his mouth. What?!

He rips the note off and burns it so there isn't a trace, so his friends don't see it and cause a commotion.

" Come on Prongs are you done?" Sirius yells and James suddenly snaps out of it.

He's panicked as he opens the door and Sirius looks him up and down, confused.

" Damn was it that bad?" He asks and searches for the howler, unable to find it.

" Uh no no. Not bad, she just wanted to give me something." James says as he walks back to his bed.
