"Mommy, wakey!"
Max and Rustle clambered into Maya's bed at the crack of dawn, giggling as they patted her frizzy blonde hair. Max helped push Rustle up, and then Rustle returned the favor, tugging Max onto the mattress.
Maya stirred under the covers, groaning softly after her long shift the night before. "Hm?"
"Mother's Day, Mama," Rustle whispered, his small hand patting her cheek.
Maya's eyes opened slowly, and despite her exhaustion, a smile broke across her face. "It is."
She pulled back the covers and the twins curled into her warmth. Within minutes, all three were back asleep.

Andy let herself into Maya's apartment with the spare key, having stood outside for ten minutes unanswered.
"Maya," she called softly, stepping into the bedroom to find the blonde and her boys fast asleep. "Seriously?"
Maya blinked awake. "Shit—Andy."
"Why are they in here?" Andy asked, amused.
"They got excited. Couldn't wait."
Maya smirked, then leapt onto the bed, covering the boys in kisses. Max giggled, and Rustle groaned sleepily. "Mommy, too early..."
Andy stood by the door, watching the moment unfold with a wistful smile.
"Presents!" Andy finally announced, waving a white plastic bag.
"You ready, boys?" she grinned.
Rustle rolled off the bed first, followed by Max, who tugged Maya's hand. "Mama, come."

Meanwhile, Carina was on break at the hospital—Mother's Day being one of the busiest times of year. Babies arriving left and right, but even amidst the chaos, she found time to think of Maya.
She picked up a bouquet and made her way to the station.
"Hey," Vic greeted as she entered.
"Hi. Are the boys here?"
"Beanery. Maya's on a call."
Carina nodded, heading upstairs. She peeked in to see Jack with Max and Rustle on his knees.
"Hi Carina," Jack greeted with a smile.
She knelt in front of the boys and handed them the flowers. "These are for your mommy, okay? Tell her Carina stopped by."
Max and Rustle nodded solemnly, gripping the bouquet.
⸻
Maya returned from her call just in time to see her boys running toward her.
"For you! From Rina," Max beamed, offering the flowers.
"From who, baby?" Maya asked, confused.
"C-Rina," Max repeated proudly.
Maya looked to Jack, who gave her a confirming nod.
The boys hugged her legs tightly, and her heart melted. Even on a day that wasn't about Carina, the brunette still found a way to make her feel loved.
After settling the twins with Jack, Maya stepped into the hallway, dialing her phone.
"Hi," she smiled.
"Hi Bella," Carina replied.
"The flowers..."
"You got them," Carina said knowingly.
"You didn't have to. I'm not your mum."
Carina chuckled gently. "I know. But you're an amazing mama, Maya."
Leaning against the wall, Maya closed her eyes, heart full. "Thank you."
"Happy Mother's Day, Bella."
