Maya had been thinking about reaching out to Carina for a while, especially with the optimism the new year brought, but fear always held her back. She'd write a message, hover over the send button, then delete it—never ready to break the walls she'd spent a lifetime building, especially after her father's emotional manipulation.

Those walls had started to fade after the twins were born; her main focus became loving and protecting them. Still, fear lingered.

While on desk duty at the station, Maya's son Max asked to play with her phone. Not tech-savvy at two, he unknowingly sent the message Maya had written to Carina—the one she'd never meant to send.

Later, Carina called, surprising Maya. Confused, she learned the message had gone through. Embarrassed, she admitted Max must've sent it, and while hesitant, she didn't deny wanting to see Carina. Carina, perceptive and patient, offered to come over instead—willing to walk in the snow just for a chance with Maya.

Touched by this effort, Maya agreed. When Carina arrived with picnic food, the warmth between them deepened. They shared laughs, meaningful conversation, and a simple yet cherished meal.

As Carina went to leave, Maya stopped her, thanking her softly. They agreed to see each other again—next time somewhere new. In a quiet, unspoken moment, Maya leaned in, their kiss gentle and full of promise. It was magical, and it meant there would definitely be a next time.
