Chapter 31:

The day had gone by quite slowly as she cleaned the kitchen of the beanery.

They had just gotten back from a 3 fire call, meaning that it wasn't too bad but also wasn't the easiest call they had ever had.

"Maya, your phone" Maya was broken from her haze when Andy passed her phone to her, it was ringing, Carina was calling her.

"Hello" all Maya heard when she answered the phone was coughing and little sniffles here and there.

"Hi Bambina" Maya frowned when she heard her girlfriends voice, she sounded sick.

"Babe, you're sick?" Maya knew the answer when Carina continued to cough and sneeze down the line.

"Sí, I phoned in sick, my temperature is through the roof and I have a few flu symptoms" Mayas frown deepened as she leant against the kitchen cabinet and ran a hand through her hair.

"I'll grab the twins and come straight over" Maya suggested as she made her way to find Andy to let her know.

"No Bambina I don't want you all to get sick too" that was a good point, she wasn't so bothered about herself but she did care if the twins got sick.

"I'll leave the twins with Bailey then and come over myself" Maya found Andy and pressed her phone against her chest.

"Carina is sick am I good to take the rest of the day off?" Thank god her best friend was the captain.

"Sure Maya, send her my love" Maya smiled and made her way to the lockers to grab her things.

"Bambina?" Carina questioned as she continued to speak but didn't get a response.

"Yeah babe?"

"Did you hear what I said?" Maya grabbed her bag and made her way out to her car.

"No sorry"

"I said don't come over you'll get my germs" Maya smiled at how considerate Carina was, but she knew if this was the other way around she would do the same thing.

"Too late I'm in my car" Maya couldn't even see the brunette but knew she rolled her eyes.

"I need to go, I'll see you in a minute" Maya ended the phone call and popped a quick message to Bailey asking if she could grab the twins from day care and watch them for a few hours.

Maya made her way to the store before heading to carinas to grab her a few things, tissues, soup, cough sweets, and some medicine.

She also got her a cup of her favourite coffee along with a bouquet of flowers.

"Babe?" Maya let herself in with the key Carina had given her and set the things down on the kitchen counter before entering Carinas bedroom.

"Hi babe" Carina was fast asleep, Mayas heart melted as she sat down beside her sleeping girlfriend.

She rested her hand on her forehead to check her temperature and she was boiling hot.

Maya leant down and pressed a kiss to Carinas cheek, "baby" she whispered, her hand moving to weave through thick curly locks.

"Hm?" Carina stirred and slowly started to open her eyes.

Carina caught sight of her girlfriend perched beside her on the bed and raised her arms above her head so she could stretch out her tensed muscles.

"Hi Bambina" her voice was croaky, Carina sat up slightly so she could rest her back against the headboard.

"I got you a few things" Maya made her way to the kitchen to retrieve the medicine she had bought as well as the tissues.
