It was another normal day, or at least that's what Maya thought when she woke up this morning.
She woke up had her usual coffee to allow her body to wake up and to recuperate.
She made herself and the twins some breakfast.
Pancakes as always, the twins loved pancakes.
She got dressed and then dressed the twins for daycare, she drove them there and then got herself to the hospital to meet carina before her shift started.
It was the start of the new year, Maya had made a few resolutions so far, these included, taking time off to spend with family, staying calm when the twins misbehaved, and having a positive attitude.
She made a pit stop at the little coffee stall at the hospital before seeing her girlfriend.
The usual, hospital coffee wasn't the best, but it was something.
Carina would appreciate it anyway, despite its taste.
It's the thought that counts.
Maya walked through her usual route of the hospital and eyed the receptionist sat typing on the computer.
"Morning Maya" the woman smiled kindly at the blonde and explained that carina was in the middle of surgery but wouldn't be long so told her to just wait in her office.
"Ok great thanks Katy" she smiled at the woman before making her way towards Carina's office.
It wasn't a long walk to the brunettes office as she opened the door and spotted her girlfriend sat at her office chair.
The surpise was evident on Mayas face when she saw her girlfriend sat typing on her laptop.
"Hi Bella" Carina smiled at the blonde as she stood up and stole a quick kiss from her girlfriend before taking the coffee Maya was holding.
"Katy said you were in surgery?" Carina frowned and Maya knew something must have gone wrong.
"What happened?" Maya asked as she sat down on the sofa with Carina joining her.
"I lost the mama" now Maya was the one frowning as she eyed her girlfriend for any signs that she was not ok with what had happened to her patient.
It was always hard for Maya when she couldn't get a victim out on time or had complications with the building meaning it would just collapse before she made it in time.
She knew how it felt.
"Oh babe" she opened her arms for the brunette in which Carina happily took the offer for a hug as she shuffled forward so she was tightly wrapped in the blondes embrace.
"I'm so sorry Carina" Maya had her hand stroking through brown locks as she tried to soothe her girlfriend.
"It's ok, it was bound to happen, we just couldn't stop the bleeding, it happens all the time, and yet it still upsets me just as much" Carina explained as she removed herself from Mayas embrace and rested her back against the couch.
"You did everything you could, it's just one of those things unfortunately" Carina nodded as she sipped from her coffee cup.
"Thanks for the coffee Bella" Maya smiled as she leant back and turned her body so it was facing the brunette.
"It's alright" they sat in comfortable silence for a moment before Maya made a move to stand up from the couch.
"I should go" she walked to the door with her girlfriend following close behind.
