Lina managed to avoid Sirius and the rest of the Marauders for the rest of the day. Much to her relief it seemd that Hufflepuff's didn't have many lessons with the Slytherins and the other subjecs Lina were taking were not the same ones as Sirius.
At lunch the next day instead of sitting with Amelia and her friends, who she liked but found to be a bit...overhwealming, Lina deicded to sit by the Black Lake, where she used to sit in her time. Only when she got there she found the spcae to already be taken.
As she stepped on a twig breaking it, the boy's head snapped up.
Lina locked eyes with her uncle and her cheeks blushed red, was it really so hard to get one moments of peace. "Sorry" she apologised taking a step back "I didnt realise this spot was taken."
"It's fine" he said so quietly Lina nearly missed, he shuffled up and while it wasnt an obvious invitiation to join him, she took it as one. "You're the new girl right?"
"Yeah" Lina said shuffling to get a but more comfotble "Eve." it wasn't so hard to get use to the name change, not when Cedric had been calling her it for so long.
"Regulus" he said nodding his head sligtly.
Oh yeah I know exactly who you are...kind of, was what she wanted to say, but she had already been making such a fool of herself she resisted. "I'm sorry for bothering you, but it was quite a bit overwhelming in there and I needed a bit of space, this looked like a nice quiet spot."
"It is" Regulus replied "it's why I come here."
"Right, alone. I should go" Lina was half way up when Regulus told her she didn't have to go anywhere so she didn't. "Why are you out here by yourself?" Lina asked, she flinched slightly it was a personal question and he may resent her for asking one, he way tell her to leave him alone but truly what did Lina have to lose?
"You know who I am?" Regulus asked, Lina assumed that he didn't mean just him by his name and nodded his head, oh she knew him alright. "It's get overwhelming in there for me too, all the expectations and the brother who hates me."
Lina didn't think Sirius hated him, if anything from the talks Sirius and her had before she fell through the veil Lina felt that Sirius blamed himself for what had happened to his younger brother, maybe if there parents hadn't been the bastards they were maybe the two brothers could have reconnected maybe Regulus didn't need to die.
Maybe Lina could change this?
Really what big impact would Regulus not joining the death eaters and dying before he got the chance to make things right with Sirius have? Truly how could Dumbledore just expect her to go to classes alongside her family, to talk to him to hear them laugh and joke, be young and free and not want to change anything.
And she didn't want to change anything for herself, her mum had died and she had mourned, Sirius went to Azkaban almost by choice but she had crushed the anger that resided in the pit of her stomach for so long. She had had a good life, a happy one it was only fair Regulus got to experience that too. He deserved that.
Lina resolved right there in that second that she was going to save Regulus's life, she was going to be his friend rather than just a niece his has no idea even exists and she was going to save him from his own family.
"I understand expectations, probably not as great as you" Lina said "and I don't think you're brother hates you, I just think because of the expectations put upon you both you were never given a chance."
"Do you always say exactly what's on your mind?" Regulus asked with a harsh laugh.
"No" Lina said her cheeks blushing red, hell if anything she was quite meek, looking back she had realised she had let too many people walk all over here, she had let too many things pass as not to cause problems but now she realised she didn't have much to loose. "I'm trying something new."
