September first was always the day when Hogwarts first started its school year, and this year was just like any other.
Going back to school was supposed to be something fun where you saw your friends again after the long summer and felt a renewed joy in being back. And as a seventh year, Lea was supposed to be feeling that joy as well as focusing on her NEWT classes.
That's not how she felt though. Everyone hated her, she had killed Dumbledore. There wasn't even a way to get around that. Everyone knew it was her that had done it.
Her appearance had drastically changed since the last time they had seen her through. Now instead of her wavy blonde hair, she died it deep brown and straightened it. There was heavy eyeliner on her lids and a soft red lip to match. Wearing all black from her jeans to the turtle neck tucked into them and a pair of black boots to match.
She wasn't the same Lea anymore and she didn't want to pretend to be that girl anymore. She had died with Dumbledore, and they would have to get used to this one.
The teachers all sat at the table up at the front, and like the students, no one was talking. That was because stationed through the room, standing by the walls, were Death Eaters. Who gave zero shits about anyone's education.
Draco and her walked into the great hall, side by side. Holding hands. She kept her chin up, trying to look forward and not at the students who were glaring holes into her head.
It was her fault Snape was now their headmaster and several of the students were missing. Parents of purebloods and half-bloods didn't even have a choice if they wanted their kids to come back or not. It was either bringing them to school or dying.
Muggle born students, like Dean Thomas, were on the run. Their only other option was death.
Draco led them over to the Slytherin table, both of them taking a seat with their fellow classmates. Pansy hadn't changed and Lea found herself actually welcoming her hateful stare. Probably because she was the only one who wasn't mad at her about Dumbledore, just about being with Draco.
Daphne on the other hand, looked furious. Without even saying anything she stood up and walked out of the great hall.
And that hurt Lea. She had shown Daphne a new way to think and yet she herself went with the old way.
Snape stood in the place where Dumbledore's podium would normally be, but that item had been removed.
"Welcome to another year at Hogwarts," Snape greeted them in his monotone voice. "As your new headmaster, I would like to welcome those both returning and the first year who were just sorted into their house. Slytherin house has never been more pleased to welcome so many new students this year."
