Prologue

Lix's POV

"Why am I still alive?" Is the question which is always in my head. Along with the voices, I don't even know who it belongs to. Is it mine or some unknown creature inside me? Nobody knows.

The bus I was on wasn't as packed as it was in the morning, the moon was up high and so were the hundred lights from different establishments right by the road. There was an old couple sitting a bit from behind and I could sense they were talking about me. It could be the way I look like a gangster or the fact that I'm all bruised up. Well, I get into fights sometimes or more, like some kids beating me up.

I'm an orphan, I don't have a family nor a home to go to. I didn't even get a chance to go to school. I don't know how to read, write or anything ordinary. To survive, I have to be a robber, a slave or just go to the dumps for food.

Without waiting for the bus to stop, I stood up and pushed the button to tell the driver to pull up, but then I regretted getting down. I had to clutch myself as the cold wind hit.

"Shit, I should have ignored them. Damn, oldies!" I grumbled as I kicked the ground. And it even got worse as it started to snow.

"Now I definitely confirm, I'm the most unlucky guy in this world!"

Right in front of me is a dark, empty alley, but that's not all. Somewhere at the end there's a flickering light.

Blue, green, white and red. It kept on changing and honestly it did attract me, so without another minute I took a step into the darkness. The ground is almost covered as the snow got heavier.

I took larger steps and finally arrived at the end, where a 5-story building stood, with a neon sign "Welcome" which seemed to be the source of the flickering lights. Without thinking, I pushed through the door, only to reveal the place was already abandoned.

Just like me, empty, ruined, nothing to appreciate. I moved forward and climbed up the stairs. My mind was too blank to think of anything, my body was moving on its own, which surprised me. For a second, I was on the ground floor, but now I arrived at the rooftop.

And from then, voices and screams started to ring in my head. It hurts...

"Argh!" I held my head, fingers tightened over the strands and pulled them, yet it still went on.

"Please...stop!" I cried out. My eyes suddenly caught the sight of the edge.

'You're supposed to be dead!'

'Why?!'

'You're a monster!'

'A curse!'

'DIE!'

Then everything stopped. I got conscious again, but now, finally I'm standing on the edge of the building. One more step and everything will be done. I'll be dead, like everyone thinks I should be.

Raising my hand on the side, I was ready to jump. Just a little more...

"Are you sure you wanna jump? Are you sure you wanna die?"

I quickly turned around as I was so surprised to hear a deep voice asking, well, more like growling at me. Red hair, sharp blue eyes and a built-up body under his buttoned shirt, the guy was very handsome and dangerous, as I felt a sudden dark aura present in the atmosphere.

Those questions and piercing eyes, though, suddenly got stuck on me, making me think twice about what I was supposed to do.

"Who are you?" I asked. The guy just stood there, staring at me, before lighting up a cigarette.

"I asked you first...are you sure you want to die?"

Silence engulfed us, as I didn't know what to say. But then again, the same voices as before started once more.

'Kill yourself!'

Before he could say anything, I cut him off. I was thankful enough for some stranger to ask me those questions, so with a small smile, I looked at him with teary eyes and finally had the guts to jump.

This is it! I'm finally gonna die! Everything will be fine.

But instead of the wind, a warm body engulfed me in a tight embrace. With an arm on my back, I opened my eyes to see the same guy dead looking at me. I can't tell what he was thinking, and I can't say a thing at the moment. My breath hitched, and before everything blacked out, I heard him say...

"Calm down and let me help you darling!"
