A/n:
This chapter is the origins for (y/n) arriving in the maze so if you wish to skip to the next chapter you may do so without being clueless of what's going on. If you skip please read the No Ones Pov at the bottom as that information is important for the whole series.

People are often scared of the dark or the unknown that one falls into when asleep. It was a perfectly good thing to be scared of. (Y/n) was no exception. She never knew what was waiting for her when she awoke from a deep sleep and she most certainly didn't predict that her future would entail running through deadly walls to find peace. Peace is a funny thing. It is said that no man can ever truly find peace until death is upon him. Seeing as (Y/n) wasn't a man she really didn't have an excuse to not go out and find it. But what if the answer had been running by her side all along?

...

Sirens blared in the dark as the tunnels lights began to flicker on. (Y/n) jolted awake gasping for air the world spinning around her. Covered in sweat she frantically looked around her small cage. There was no bottom or top from what she could see. She cried out a pitiful "hello?".

She was met only with the rumbling of the ascending cage. Boxes surrounded her and she used them to hoist herself off the ground. Screeches and menacing groans surrounded her on all sides as the cage began to ascend faster, causing immense panic to fill every inch of (Y/n's) body. Leaning closer to the edges out of curiosity for the noises owner she saw a small opening in the walls. Jumping back with a loud shriek as a creature that (Y/n) couldn't even imagine how to describe jumped out of the shadows.

"Some one get me out of here!"

The cage now shot towards the approaching end of the tunnel. "Please help me! Anyone?!"

Her cries were wholly ignored by her watchers. (Y/n) grabbed the roof of the cage pushing and pulling in an attempt to make something, anything happen. Her head shot upwards as the dim white lights turned into a haunting red. The ceiling approached at a rapid pace with no signs of the cage stopping. She shielded her body beneath her arms as she curled in on herself.

A final alarm rang out and everything went quiet. (Y/n) would be able to hear her own thoughts if there weren't so many rushing through her head. Her heavy uneven breathing filled the small space and she cowered underneath her arms. Slowly her eyes opened as the cage opened its doors. She was met with a searing bright light that blinded her as she adjusted to the sun. When (Y/n's) vision cleared she saw her confined space surrounded by.... Boys?

Boys pov:
Every greenie that came out of the box was a dishevelled boy either crying or cowering in the corner looking like they'd seen a ghost. Sometimes it was both. The boys would snicker and laugh at the state of the newcomer that would be joining their ranks. The glade was quite for this box. No one made a sound, they all stared in bewilderment some with their jaws open. There was no boy to mock only a girl, small to their eyes with fear slowly turning to confusion evident on her face. The glade had just received their first girl.

(Y/n) pov:
She stared up at the gawking boys as the cage was pulled open. She flinched as the sides hit the ground. A tall boy, reasonably well built gently made his way into the cage approaching her like a spooked animal. She saw his unique eyebrows first. Then his wary face and the dirty blonde buzz cut. She noticed how his faded shirt fit snugly to his arms but hung loose around his chest and stomach. The boy spoke softly "I'm gonna get you out of here ok? So don't panic". She allowed him to help her off the ground and hoist her up to the awaiting arms of one of the other boys. She was set on the ground and she observed the area before her. Green fields spread out all around her stopping abruptly at great stone walls. She turned her head over her shoulder and saw a large forest surrounded by huts of all sizes. Looking back to the curious boys she noticed them all slowly crowding her. A boy at the back spoke

" what the shuck is a girl doing here?"

To which another replied "I've never seen one before, I thought they were made up".

A chorus of moronic comments and outbursts started erupting from the group as (Y/n) stared up as the approaching, incredibly tall figures from the floor. Faces now surrounded her vision as many legs blocked the view of the surrounding fields. Her breathing quickened once again and her body took over. She sprung up from the floor and shoved the boys in front of her out of the way. Breaking off into a sprint she aimed for the forest. She let her mind slow and her breathing even as the wind blew past her face. Her legs didn't falter or fail her once. She couldn't remember anything from before 5 minutes ago but she knew she'd never experienced something as freeing as this. It just felt so right, like she'd found her place in the world. Running away from the onslaught of boys was no longer (Y/n's) priority it was now just her excuse to keep running. From behind her she heard the shouts of "runner", "we've got a runner!". Were these boys seriously in need to shout to each other that she was running? Seemed like a rather obvious thing to point out. They were boys however. The peace of her own mind was disturbed as she heard the loud thuds of footsteps behind her. The forest was so close all she needed to do was pick up her speed. If she could make it to a tree she'd be able to find refuge in its high branches. Refocusing her mind on the thrill of running she forced her legs to move beneath her quicker.

Instead of the soft thudding of feet on grass the hard crunches of leaves filled (y/n's) ears. It dulled the calming effect running seemed to have on her. Her pursuer was now further behind due to her sudden increase of speed and she used that opportunity to grab a branch in arms reach. The tree had thick branches that she wrapped her legs around as she shimmied closer to the leafy top.

"You've got some serious speed greenie."

(Y/n) looked down from her perch to see a boy around her age standing at the base with his arms crossed. He had a smirk on his face as he looked up at the girl hugging the tree for dear life.

"Y'know the grounds safer than the 3 foot tree, right?"

She snappily replied "well my experience with the ground has said otherwise".

The boy let out a small huff of a laugh. She noticed how unlike the other boys his baby blue button down fit snugly... everywhere. He had almond shaped eyes that from this height matched the colour of his hair. He had the smartass smirk which told (y/n) everything she needed to know about his personality. Her mind betrayed her and wandered to the fact that he was definitely good looking. Maybe the ground wasn't looking so bad after all.

"If you come down I can get you some food."

Well that settles it then. Carefully she started rolling herself down the branches until she could drop down to her feet. Standing in front of the dark haired boy she noticed that he was decently taller, realising that looking up would be a frequent occurrence around here.

"I'm Minho."

"I— I'm.... (Y/n)... yes (Y/n)."

"Well (Y/n), welcome to the glade."

No ones pov:

"She's strong. Are we sure sending her in was the right decision?"

"No but it's the only decision we could make. If she stayed it would have meant the end of us all."

"She's too smart. You know what we designed the mazes for. We should have put an end to her when we had the chance"

"She is useful to us if we can keep her on a tight leash."

"You know what happened with her father. If her brother gets sent in then there will be nothing that can stop them."

"We do not speak of that incident Janson. They will both behave and we will control the situation if need be...WCKD is good"

A/N:
Sooooooooooooo I've gotten bored with life and decided to get inspo from my tik tok maze runner pov series and write it properly. Makes so much more sense to me since I am a writer and the lack of detail bugs me. I've never formally written anything beyond starting a few shoddy "books" only for me to see, then losing interest so bare with me if this really sucks. Lemme know if this is alright or if i need to fix anything.
Peace out ✌️
