Thomas' Pov:

Guilt.

That's all I felt when my body started shaking me out of unconsciousness. Alby was right, I practically did kill her. My own sister.

(Y/n) was my friend long before I got my memories back. Perhaps my best friend in the glade. But I was the one who put her here. I was the sibling that got to live in peace while the other was fighting for their life. It wasn't fair.

She was my sister and I'd sworn to protect her. But I had failed. Some brother I am. All those years I just watched, but no more. I refused to be a spectator in her life, from now on I'll keep my promise to our mother. I'm getting her out of here.

My eyes sprung open. Teresa's blue eyes greeted me first, her face hovering directly over mine. One of her hands ran through my hair in comfort.

"What the hell were you thinking?" Chuck commented.

Both Teresa and I turned our heads to the doors of... the pit. Why was I always in the pit? Sitting up I noticed that Minho was beside Chuck with Newt on the end, leaning on the door. No (Y/n) though.

"What happened? Where's (Y/n)?!" I said that last part slightly frantic. I needed to see my sister as soon as possible. She needed to know the truth.

Newt was the one to answer my question. "Gally's taken control. Either join him, or get banished at sundown with you."

My mouth opened to ask further about (Y/n) but Minho beat me to it.

"She's been out all night and most of today, only waking up about an hour ago. She's in pretty rough shape. Gally won't let her out of the med hut," he chuckled, "only took her 15 minutes to try and get back on her feet."

"Yea that sounds about right," I muttered to myself. On stiff legs I tried to stand up in the cramped space. "The others agreed with Gally?"

"He has everyone convinced that your the reason everything has happened..." Teresa softly explained. She wasn't far from the truth.

Now seated somewhat comfortable on the rock wall I was able to face everyone. Not one of them looked happy in any way.

"Well he's been right so far." I rubbed my legs to ease feeling back into them. Their unimpressed faces turned to confused ones.

"What are you talking about?" My keeper questioned.

"This place... its not what we thought it was. Its not a prison its a test, it all started when we were kids. They'd give us these challenges... they were experimenting on us. Then people started disappearing, every month one after the other like clockwork." I tried to explain hoping they'd understand.

"Sending them up into the maze," Newt cottoned on.

"Yea, but not all of us."

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"...guys, I'm one of them," I said openly. There was no way to make it sound any better. I just hoped they wouldn't hate me. "The people who put you here, I worked with them. I-I-I watched you guys for years," I was whispering to them as their faces showed their hurt and fear. "I was on the other side of it," now my voice quivered. "So were you," my gaze was pointedly directed at Teresa but she looked at me differently. With... understanding? There was no judgement in her stare.

"What?" She was still afraid.

"Teresa we did this to them," she was shaking her head, tears in her eyes. I hated making her cry.

"No— that can't be true," her breathing became heavy.

"It is, I saw it."

Her mind was visibly trying to piece together the puzzle of this maze. "Why would they send us up if we were with them?"
