I choked on air trying my hardest to breathe. Was I having another panic attack? Weirdly, I felt calm but I also felt like I was dying. I felt safe and yet I was wheezing for breathe. My body was weighed down as if I had a whole mountain on top of me. What was this confusing feeling?

I shot my eyes open only to be met by the undefined cause of my dilemma. I almost laughed. Riker had fallen asleep  his whole body was directly on top of mine. 'I'll watch her every second my foot.' He might've as well been the cause of my death.

'Baby you're crushing me.' I tapped his shoulder but he wouldn't budge. I realised I wasn't the only one who needed a good sleep. Riker was tired to. His weight on me caused ounces of pain as I'd just been operated on and probably had stitches. Despite my condition, Riker's comfort came first. The man I love was worth the whole world and more.

I let him rest. As I was half awake, I heard footsteps. 'Hey hey you need to wake up, someone's coming.' No response. If I couldn't feel his abs contracting and relaxing against mine, I'd think he was dead. 'Riker you have to wake up.' Silence. Only footsteps.

The door creaked open and when I expected one of my friends, I was met with an unfamiliar face. It was a man dressed in scrubs but up close even a blind man could see that he was only playing pretend.

The closer he moved, the more frightened I was. It was hard to see his face in the merely moonlit room. 'Hey sweety, I hope you missed me.' The man said his voice sickly sweet. Everything in me flinched and I hoped he wasn't who I thought he was.

This is a military base, there's no way Lionel could invade. It was simply impossible. 'Yes baby girl it's me. Aww look at you two looking all cute and what not.' The scary man peeped at Riker's face hidden in my chest. He stretched out his hand curling his fingers in a strangling way. And retreated as if holding back for another opportunity.

'I don't write on tiny papers anymore, here's a real life threat note. You're going to die a disgraceful death. And for what? For teaching Riker a petty lesson. That's all you're worth. Kiss kiss bang bang.' He kissed his fingers and made finger guns shooting one at me and one at Riker.

My body shriveled like a leaf in the winter dryness. Riker's proximity couldn't promise safety in that moment. But him being directly on top of me and fast asleep might've been the only thing that kept Lionel from hurting me.

As swift as he came in, he left. I tried to scream or call out for him to be caught but my throat dried and I cowered.

Riker remained asleep in oblivion of a certain intruder. Just then, my brain was flashed with memories of the day I was sentenced to death. That dark, eerie room I'd been dragged into was clear as day in my mind. The large sword like knife choked with black gas that was driven into my side ripping my flesh.

The only way I could survive was getting to the bottom of this knife. Who made it? Who's selling it? How can it be reversed? Once again, I decided to play detective. I wasn't ready to die.

'At what cost?' The words rung in my brain like a reckless echo. I'd rather die at old age's hand and not Lionel's. But who in this life could decide their fate? Definitely not me.

Riker began to stir and I jabbed him a bit to speed up the process. 'Wake up you heavy ass man.' He groaned attempting to get up but then snuggling deeper into me. 'Riker' I whined. It was cute and all but my anaesthetic was wearing off and it was starting to jab my insides.

With a slight push and a shake, he finally woke up and blankly stared at me. His eyes droopy and his long black hair falling over his face. 'You look like my lady.' He dragged. 'Oh yes you are. Can I kiss you?' He slurred trying to open his eyes.

'Wake up Riker you're on top of me.' My words fell on deaf ears. 'What am I doing on top of you? Did I fall asleep during shnoogadoogle time?' He smirked as if somewhat proud of what he just said. I chuckled.

I wrapped my hand around his collar and pulled him in. Just when he was inches away from my lips, I slammed my hand across his face.

'Shit.' He groaned holding his cheek. 'Why did you...? Oh my gosh Daisy I'm crushing you.' He hurriedly climbed off me tumbling onto the ground and causing an earthquake. I would've laughed but my mood had been dissipated by a certain shadow in the dark. 'Call a doctor.' I said holding my side. I clenched my teeth.

Doctor Garcia and Megan rushed in connecting machines to my body. And checking my vital levels. Doc proceeded to inject me with an anaesthetic he personally altered to work for my condition.

Ongoing the uproar of my medical emergency, SG came rushing in the room to deliver a message. One that shook us to the core. I sat up to hear the full story still being monitored. She told us that the military was no longer going to protect us from TSS and offer us shelter. We had to move out in our clearly vulnerable state.

'Isn't the military's job to protect its citizens? Why would they just abandon us like that?'I growled upset by the injustice.

'Apparently corruption is here too. Lionel was spotted here at the base at night and the commanders instructed us to and I quote, leave the situation to dissolve itself.' She made finger quotes.

I was appalled by such behaviour. Lionel or TSS or whoever was the real boss had the army around their fingers too. I heavily sighed. The rich and powerful rule this world. And there wasn't a better way to say that.

The next day, Riker, Tiago and I approached the chief commander. One can imagine the struggle I went through to convince them to come along.

The chief commander was an aged man with no black strand left on his head. The wrinkles on his face and hands were so prominent they spoke volume. I couldn't miss the way his eyes drooped every other second. The man was teasing death.

It was pointless to hear the reason for his decree. The way his words were dragged and jumbled. I could tell though, that the man had a greed for paper. Not only I had noticed that, I realised when Riker spoke up.

'At your age what do you need a lot of money for? To buy a coffin?' Riker growled crossing his hand over the other. I didn't miss how his bicep flexed. Daisy focus.

'I have lived for many years so listen to the words of the wise. Without money like mine, you are just as an insect. I can easily step on you and twist my foot crushing your whole life, at the expense of blemishing the bottom of my custom designer shoe. That is all you are worth.' His fowl words had my guts twisting. Sick bastards like him still existed?

'Let's go. This is a dead end.' Tiago held my hand and led us out.

Before we closed the door behind us, Riker stood right infront of the corrupt, aged man. 'They say wisdom is with the gray haired. But the only thing you got with age is an ugly face and a rotten brain. Say cheese and meet your end with a smile.' Riker pulled out a lighter, ignited it and held it in the commander's nostril.

The commander screamed and I hurriedly pulled Riker so that we could run away. I had to be his safety pin. I wasn't going to let him have blood on his hands. The most he could've done would be burning the mans nose hairs and all. Right?

Mr old man who loves paper was gasping for breath when we fled the room in a rushed getaway. Riker see where that temper of yours got us now.

There was no way we were leaving the military base quietly and unnoticeably.
