Cal could hardly believe it, after nearly seven months of arguing she finally had ownership of the old mine, known as Gambler Mine. Once upon a time the mine and the land it was on belonged to her tribe and now because of her, it was back where it belonged. She rolled out of bed with a bounce in her step, "finally..." She remembered the dreams she had since she was a child. She would dream of the mine, she had only seen the land the mine rests on from a distance but somehow it would always come in clearly in her mind. She could see herself racing through it, sometimes she was anxious and panicked, but other times she was hand in hand with someone that never came in clearly. They were laughing and joking and dancing to music that only they could hear. Cal has wanted to step into the mine since the odd dreams started when she was really young.
"Murk!" Cal heard her brother calling out for his cat and looked around the room. Sure enough, there he was curled on her bed. Cal chuckled and let the cat sleep, she wondered how long it would take for Bret to find him here. She's the oldest and only daughter of Brice and Issi Thunderhawk. She has one younger sibling, a brother named Bret. Brice is one of the respected members of their tribe and sought after for historical facts, spiritual guidance, and metaphysical wisdom by more than just his tribe. Issi... her mom was an expert on all things related to plants and was one of the towns biggest contributors to the local nurseries.
Cal turned and looked at herself in the mirror "I was starting to wonder if I would ever see my dream come true." She straightened her clothes, "And they put up a great fight," She chuckled "But I was not backing down;" it was important to her to own that mine. Cal walked over to her makeup table and stretched, her eyes closed for a brief moment as she remembered how cruel the sellers tried to be... but she had won. She sighed as a smile appeared on her face "and today we tell the family!" She turned to look at her brother's cat that just yawned and blinked at her from the blanket on the bed. "Oh don't give me that look; you know what I'm talking about" Cal walked over and mussed the cats fur then moved back towards near the makeup table and reached for her brush. "This could go two ways..." she combed the knots out of her own short brown hair that hovered about an inch above her shoulders, she took a deep breath and let the stress add some rational arguments to the situation "The mine is so old it is bound to have some really cool things hidden in it."
"Breakfast Cal..." Her mom called from the kitchen
She set the brush down and examined herself in the mirror. Her petite 5'2" frame made her size D bust overly noticed. She pulled at her outfit frowning, the only thing that made her more uncomfortable was her pale skin; though spotless and silky it had always gotten her teased. Yes, Cal didn't really care, but she still couldn't fight the feelings of being out of place. That was the worst, being the pale one on the reservation, she grew up wishing she could blend in for just once. However, the feature that she loved and loathed at the same time was her bright turquoise blue eyes, a color not found anywhere else in her family. They beamed brightly today with excitement at the upcoming events. She turned and pounced on the bed cuddling up to the cat "You know Murk it has been almost a year since I went spelunking out back in the ..."
"Are you boring my cat again with your cave talk?"
"Bret," Cal jumped and glared at him "Knock first, then enter..." She sat up and scooted to the edge of the bed "Besides he came in here, so all bets are off." Cal folded her arms as 18-year-old Bret's tall 6'2" tanned physique sauntered in and scooped up the tan and cream-colored fluffy cat. Murk meowed in objection but gave up struggling quickly and went limp with pleasure as Bret scratched behind his ear.
