As Malaya lays in the bed quietly , careful not to wake Yosohn, whose sleeping on the other side of the room , her mind roams wild letting it flood with everything that happened today .
Since she had taken an unexpected long nap earlier this morning , she wasn't able to go to sleep , so she decided to stay up and wait until Herb got home to talk to him but he never came home . Ari claims he does this most nights , and will be back in later , but all Malaya could think about is their mother going upside his head everytime he stayed out late like this back then .
What turned into minutes , turned into hours , turned into the next day and she still hasn't gotten any sleep yet .
She wish she knew where Herb kept his weed stash so she could at least force herself to sleep by getting high , but with no luck she just decided to entertain herself with her own thoughts .
She's thinking a lot about today, and how proud she is of actually Going outside and meeting new people . Actually holding a conversation with someone other than family, and actually being liked by the other party .
She was so eager to tell someone all about it , that she expressed everything to ari and Yosohn at dinner . Ari said she's seen most of the kids Malaya described around the neighborhood , and Yosohn said that pooh bought him some ice cream one day from a truck so he's good in his book .
Malaya just never really realized how friendly people could be , because after so many bad tries and making friends , she just gave up . Especially after what happened in Atlanta . But after today ,she can honestly say she's glad she tried , she just hopes she can stay this optimistic the entire summer .
She huffs quietly to herself , still not feeling any fatigue, before giving up and just getting on her phone tapping on apps . She checks her messages and call log to check if her mom contacted her , which she didn't. Before sighing and sending a text to Herb , asking if he's okay . She gets no response from him either so instead she just goes to her gallery for no particular reason .
While scanning, she sees a random picture from yesterday in her camera roll from when she was high , making her furrow her eyebrows . She doesn't remember taking it , but since it's not ugly , she decides to post it .
