Following Morning
————————
I hear a knock at my door. The beautiful sun rise is barely in motion. I sigh and get up. I open the door and immediately Ayaka throws her arms around me. "Thanks so much for deciding to help me." I wasn't even a bit awake, but here she was, energetic and ready to take on the world."Ayaka.. I was just gonna ask him to hang with us and then dip.. there's no true plan here." I yawn and head over to the kitchen. "But while you're here what do you want your indirect date to be? Time, place, yadda yadda?" I start making myself a cup of coffee. This will definitely get me going. "Also did you hear about what's been going on with the lavender melons? Better stay away from them. Heard they've all been going bad."
"Have they? I'll remember that. Well I was thinking of going swimming? It's supposed to get hot over the weekend so! Saturday would be preferable, but Sunday is alright. Maybe dinner afterwards or something?" She's daydreaming about it already. She starts mumbling scenarios of what she wishes to happen. I should prepare their meals.
"What time then?" She has a stupid grin on her face, blush spreading to her ears. "3 it is. Lunch time." She looks over to me.
"Good! I'm sure the less he does, the less he'll stress! I can't wait to see what you'll pack us for lunch." She claps her hands and smiles at me cutely. I think this is her way of telling me she's a bad cook. I chuckle slightly.
"I'll just tell him I'm sick and can't go.. yeah, when he comes by tell him I sent a bird to tell you I'm sick. Since he's already there he'd feel bad leaving, so he'll surely go." She stands up. Is she leaving already? She bows instead.
"Thank you so much (Y/N)! I cant tell you how much this means to me." I pat her head.
"Don't mention it. Now run along now before he finds out you're gone. That's why you came over so early, right?" She nods. I figured. Sunday's lunch will consist of sandwiches for three. I'll have a personal date with Thoma Saturday. I'll find him later today.
——
I find Thoma cleaning up some weeds and watering trees. "Thoma!" I call out to him. He looks up and puts up a finger to tell me to wait a second. I lean against a wall and watch him work. He's efficient and quick, but I've definitely come at a bad time. "Er.. I think I'll just come back later." It was getting hotter the more it came closer to noon. As I turned to leave, he called out to me.
"It's ok! I'll take my break right now." He wiped some sweat from his forehead and gave me a genuine smile. We sat down on the stairs and I handed him some lemonade I brought. "It was probably colder earlier, huh?" He gave me sheepish smile.
"Yep. Doesn't matter. I came to... ask you out," His face immediately became a bright red and he spit out some of his lemonade. Wrong choice of words you fool! I quickly back track. "NO UH clear the weekend for me. Well me and Ayaka..!" I look down at the floor and drink my lemonade through the bamboo straw. I, too, was blushing.
Thoma finished his coughing fit and wiped the lemonade from his mouth. "I'll see if it's ok with the commission. What were you guys thinking of doing?"
"Well tomorrow I was thinking of it just being you and me. Ayaka told me to make an effort, so this is it. I was thinking of doing a few things so, but it's going to be a surprise. Let's meet in front of the tea house tomorrow at 6 ish, and Sunday at 3 yeah?" I can't make eye contact with him. It's too embarrassing. He gives me a wide smile.
"That sounds good, but you'll be joining us Sunday right?" He finishes his lemonade.
"Of course!" I lie. "Well I need to get going, I still have work to do." I get up and grab his empty bottle. "See you soon Th-" Someone abruptly interrupts us.
"Master Thoma! I ask you, please, to take care of the hilichurl situation on one of the roads!" I look at the guy who's being dragged away by one of the guards.
"Trouble.. which road? I'll try and figure this out. Don't worry about it Thoma." He nods and goes back to cleaning. I head back home and start making the plans.
I head out during the night, to find where the hilichurls would most likely be causing trouble. I find nothing and don't think much of it. Maybe Thoma took care of it? Or maybe it's one of the less popular roads.. I'll have to take care of it on Sunday. It's getting late and extremely cold. I sigh and head back to town. "Hey you!" It's a kid. I see that there's a lot of people around a fruit cart. "Please come look!"
