"That place is filthy expensive, they get celebrity visits all the time," Jenny tells me over the phone as I squeeze into a pair of high-waisted stiff Levi jeans. I roll my eyes and grab a loose-fitted cropped shirt from the back of the couch.

Though I pretended Jenny's words didn't phase me, I found myself combing through my hair and styling it into a high ponytail, and applying soft makeup. The last thing I wanted to do was look like I didn't belong. Feeling that was was bad enough.

"I doubt I'll run into any celebrities,"

"Yeah, because you'll be brunching with one. Did you read that article about him and his wife yesterday? Apparently, the divorce was finalized and they're still friends. I don't believe that shit at all," She laughs.

I spent the better part of today wondering why Harry wanted to bring me to eat out with his associate, questioning his intentions and rightfully so.

I assumed it had something to do with the pregnancy test but now I'm thinking it's about his divorce.

"I had no idea," I huff. I hoped this wouldn't make a topic at the meal.

The only reason I agreed to come to this meal was that I'd gotten a call last night from a drunk Danny right before Harry had texted me. The slithering ex from hell decided that he'd take the two hour drive from my hometown because he missed me. And this was a load of shit.

He did this every couple of months since I left, and I wouldn't take him seriously if he didn't actually go through. But he did. And it was hell every time. I blocked all fourteen of his numbers and changed mine. He always found a way.

Danny and I were a picture-perfect couple. He was the strong, well-built, and respected man that my parents always wanted me to settle down with. But he was moody as hell. We'd get into destructive arguments; throwing things, breaking glass, etc. We actually had the cops called on us a few times.

When I found out he had been cheating on me with my cousin, things took a turn for the worst. Danny brought out the ugliness in me that I was disgusted to even think about. I wouldn't say he was the reason I dropped out of college and moved away, but he sure did play a big role in it.

So when he'd call me at eleven at night, laughing and whispering to me that he'll be over and we can try again, I always got a feeling in my stomach that I couldn't place. But it always resulted in tears. Violence and tears.

The good thing was that I'd usually occupy myself with plans, he never stayed more than two days since he was a full-time student at the university at home. I was off of work for the next three days and didn't have time to pick up any shifts, so when Harry invited me out, it felt like God had dealt me the shittiest cards with a simple shrug. And I played them.

So here I was.

"How's Niall?" I Change the subject, and I can picture Jenny rolling her eyes. She didn't know about Danny. I was embarrassed by the way I acted and of the hurt I still allowed him to hold over me.

"He doesn't shut up. His mom sent him some baby clothes, by the way. She thinks it's a boy."

"Oh, God,"

"I got my dibs on a girl. Hopefully, she looks like you, I've seen your baby pictures- top tier!"

The clock is nearing half-past eleven, so after a few more minutes of conversation, I hang up the phone with Jenny and give myself one final look in the mirror before grabbing my car keys and wallet.
