Everything had gone well. Her recovery, physical therapy, regular therapy all of it. So much so that Fury had taken notice and called her into his office three months after her surgery. Knocking on his door she entered when the Director called out for her to do so. Striding into the room she stopped in front of his desk at attention with her hands clasped behind her back. "You wanted to see me sir?"
Looking her over, Nick Fury cocks his head to the side. "At ease, agent Blake. It's good to see you back in uniform."
Relaxing her stance to clasp her hands in front of her Katherine couldn't help the grin from spreading across her face. "It feels good to be back in uniform, sir."
It really did. After nine long months of blood, depression, sweat, tears and pure fucking determination she was back on full duty. All she was waiting for was the all clear from the man before her to send her back to her team.
His eye darted down towards her new hand which was all of her new arm that was showing. Knowing he wanted a better look she came closer and held out her hand for him to take. Turning it over to look at it from several angles before letting her go. "I have to hand it to Stark, Banner and the Princess, they did excellent work."
Standing up he comes around to sit on the edge of his desk giving her a thoughtful glance. Staying silent Katherine waits patiently for him to speak knowing that nothing would rush Nick Fury into answering before he was good and ready. Luckily she didn't have to wait long before he told her why he brought her here. "I want you to join Stark and the others."
"Okay, is there a specific mission me and my guys are helping out on?" She asks already planning on what they'll need depending on what is called for.
Shaking his head at her he says, "It'll be just you."
Frowning Katherine shifted uneasily as she asked with more than a little confusion. "Me sir? I don't understand. Was I requested specifically to help?"
She still wasn't getting it so he made himself clear. "I'm giving you a spot on the team as a permanent member."
Shocked she stared at him for several long seconds before sputtering out, "But I'm just a SHIELD agent, Director, I'm not an Avenger!"
Giving her a face that said 'yeah and?' he tipped his head down a bit. "So were Romanoff and Barton and look at them now. This'll be a better fit for you. Barclay will take over the current team and will have his pick to add to it."
"But I- Is this something I can turn down?" At his lifted eyebrow the answer she was getting was that it was a no. Swallowing roughly she hoarsely asks, "Can I have some time to think about this?"
"You have until the end of the day. Talk it over with Stark and Banner, I know you've gotten close in the last few months." He was being kind and considerate and it was honestly freaking her out a little bit. Seeing that she was reluctant to even think it over Fury gave her a little push. "Look, Blake. With your skill set and enhancement you're a perfect fit for the expanding team. Barclay, Fletcher and Donahue have been informed-"
Interrupting him which was completely out of the norm for her she demanded to know, "They were okay with this?"
Continuing on as if she hadn't said anything he stands up to pace over to the large windows. "And are understanding of your promotion. They see this as I do, good for you. You'll be in the action, but will be on a rotation for missions unless the whole team is called for so you'll have longer stretches of time off in comparison to before. Barclay's team will still work closely with you on occasion if that's what you want, but they still have the same objective as before."
