In the early evening they took a carriage. Arthur didn't want to let Penelope go by herself even though it wasn't far. His controlling behaviour was unbearable. But Penelope felt better immediately when she saw Christine on the terrace. She was so beautiful with her golden hair and blue eyes shining along with her beautiful dark blue dress with silver brooch in the center of the chest. Penelope waved at her. Christine smiled happily and ran downstairs. ,,I am so happy to see you, Penny" she said when she hugged her. Penelope was so overjoyed to see her as well. She loved the life her friend lived. They met a few years ago. Some time after she married the love of her life. But she was very lucky unlike Penelope herself. ,, Unfortunately my marriage is still the same... Arthur is very controlling and evil" she admitted. The smile disappeared from Christine's face. ,,So...it didn't get any better?" she asked. ,,No...but you must understand, right? You were... kidnapped yourself" Penelope answered but then realized that she shouldn't talk to her like that. ,,It was very different story" Christine sighed and told her the whole tragic story about the phantom and the life he was hiding underground. Penelope was amazed. It was a story like from a book. But she knew it was true. Such a tragic story. ,,Do you think he survived it?" she asked. ,,I don't know... but deep inside I hope that he did" Christine admitted. Then she took her hand. ,,Remember...you can always leave Arthur. Because here is your second home. We'd give you a room in here. As long as you'd want to. Raoul wouldn't be against" ,,Thank you, Christine" Penelope smiled. But she still had some issues with believing that the whole story of the phantom was true. She wished to make a small journey at the opera.
In the evening she thought about her plan. She'd tell her husband to visit the Paris Opera House with her and see the newest performance. Then she'd have enough time to disappear for a while and check if any of the rumours about the phantom are true. She was a bit skeptical. ,,Opera?" Arthur was surprised when she told him her wish. ,,Really? To see a performance or to watch other men?" his jealous tone was back. ,,Christine told me it's a great performance. I just want to see it" Penelope answered. ,,Well, then" Arthur sighed. The rest of the night was strange. After they made love Penelope felt like it didn't feel so good like it did these days when they got married. It wasn't so pleasant with a person who's chronically jealous and abusive. When she fell in love with Arthur she was probably too young to get married. But he used her naivity to get a wife... because otherwise such a problematic man would probably have a lot of problems with it. And their marriage helped him to be more trusted in society as well. Unfair, Penelope thought.
