York Couth was THAT guy. If you went to an American high school, you understand. Guys wanted to be him. Girls wanted to be with him. Blue eyes, shaggy blond hair, and not a trace of fat on him.
He had been unofficially dating Adelina around the time she died. The logic of teen dramas and afterschool specials said he was suspect numero uno.
York acted like he didn't know what kids were talking about.
"We were never dating. I just hung out with her because she was helping me with Spanish. She was great at Spanish and here I am this dumb gringo." He actually said this to the principal during questioning.
But Missy Reavers, renowned flutist and perennial pain-in-the-butt, had something else to say. "Like Hell he wasn't with Adelina. Boys are all liars. Rich boys doubly so. We were together since sophomore year right up until Adelina started shortening her skirts. Look, I feel bad about what happened, but we all had eyes and we all saw the way she dressed. Once, I was with York in the caf' and Adelina walked by. Jerk had the nerve to ask me why I don't dress like that. Because I respect myself is why. You tell me if it doesn't sound like he had a thing for her."
You might be wondering where Missy was around the time of Adelina's murder. It's unclear, but Missy's family has had the same house since she was in Kindergarten. Plenty of kids have known her since she was making fingerpaint rainbows. She might have a mouth, but she's never been violent.
