Haunted by a troubling dream, Diego sought refuge in a familiar friend - carbohydrates. Nordic's French Silk Pie was calling his name. He washed it down with black coffee, using bitter to balance the sweet.
A deputy sat at his table and asked how things were going. Diego tried to shoo him away but it didn't work. Finally, he unloaded his troubles.
"I know most people don't like hearing about dreams, but I had this really strange one and I can't get it out of my head. A voice said these four things to me:
A puzzle worthy of you.
An impossible puzzle.
You are in deeper than you know.
Run away and leave the mystery be."
That very day, a kid named Omar was bussing tables at the Nordic. He overheard Diego. He put down the tray he was carrying and approached the deputy and Diego.
"I can interpret that dream for you," he said.
"Excuse me?" asked Diego.
"It's all right. I'm a Farian and I started learning about dreams when I was little. The first two sentences basically mean the same thing. There is a situation in your life that is hard to understand like a very difficult puzzle. But the third sentence is the kicker. You are in deeper than you know. You think that you can be aloof from this situation but it is closely connected to your identity. Maybe you have to fix the situation to get peace. Or maybe you are the person who caused the situation. The fourth sentence about running away is a dire warning. There is a grave risk that you face in this struggle. It may be more dangerous than you can handle," said Omar.
"Right. Look, I prefer things like psychology and behavioral science. I don't go in for witchcraft," said Diego.
And then, a deer head on a wall in the Nordic came crashing down.
