Chapter 4
----
Daryl just stared at me, his blue orbs burning into my soul, draining every inch of pain and every drop of sadness from my body. I was debating over whether his gaze was a good thing or a bad thing, when Lori slowly walked away and I cursed her silently for making the moment more awkward than it had to be.
"You look..." He cleared his throat. "Different" he concluded.
"Is that a bad thing?" I asked him timidly.
"No!! No!" He said quickly.
"You look great" he said in the softest tone I've heard him speak in.
I smile crept its way on to my face. It was starting to get dark so we all settled down for the night, a lady named Carol was needing help finding her Daughter, Sophia, and we were going to help tomorrow.
The sun shone right through the synthetic walls of Daryl's tent. It seems that Daryl was an early riser because I was waking up alone again. I pulled on a grey button up shirt that was sitting on the ground, I assumed it was
Daryl's, I just needed to wear something other than the grey tee shirt that Maggie left me because I had slept In it. I pulled on Daryl's shirt quickly and picked up a hand gun that sat in the spot that Daryl's cross bow once sat.
I stepped from the tent and jogged over to the group of men that were gathered around the hood of a pickup truck that had a map draped over it, "morning, Piper, this is Jimmy he's Hershel's son in law" Rick said pointing to a teenage boy holding a shotgun, he nodded to me and I waved at him in return.
I wasn't really paying attention until Daryl stormed off by himself, "don't get yourself hurt Piper" he called over his shoulder. I small smile made its way to my face.
"Piper I'd rather you stay here" Rick said placing a hand on my shoulder.
"What?! Why? I can be just as much as a help that they can!" I said looking at the rest of the search group.
"I know, but I don't think any of us are prepared to face Daryl's wrath if something were to happen to you" he said looking me in the eye.
I just shrugged it off, "if you really want to help-" I nodded eagerly, "then go hunt, we could all use a fresh meal" he said before turning on his heal and sauntering off. I walked to the RV and grabbed some extra amp before heading out.
I returned back about three hours later, pulling a small doe behind me, she wasn't big but she was plenty for our group. As I walked through camp, I got a smile from Andrea, it was a sad smile through, "what happened?" I asked quietly, I dropped the doe and ran.
I ignored her cries that were warning me and I continued running to Daryl's tent. I pulled open the doors as fast as my hands would let me.
Daryl layer there with bandages wrapped around his sides, "that bitch shot me, thought I was a damn walker" he said grinning at me, "I was looking for Sophia when I fell down a hill, got an arrow to the side" he said casually. Tears welled up in my eyes, i hugged Daryl and buried my face in his chest.
"Hey there, I'm okay baby, everything's going to be okay." he mumbled, his gruff voice was muffled by my hair.
This may sound crazy, but I believe him.
