Kami tossed and turned for a while before deciding to actually open her eyes. The warm sun was shining through the bedroom window and onto her face. She stretched and finally sat up, finding that Goku was no longer in the room. She stood up and fixed the bed sheets, though they had barely been moved. Both Kami and Goku had slept on the blankets instead of under them. She walked over to the window and looked outside to see Goku running circles around the island, almost too fast to see. Kami walked to the bathroom to wash her face. So it wasn't all a dream after all. She really did wake up in a beautiful new place with no recollection of how she got there- and she was relieved. Kami walked downstairs to find Roshi in the kitchen making tea.
"So you're already wearing his clothes I see," the old turtle hermit joked, catching Kami off guard. She looked down at herself, almost shameful. "No it's not like that, I didn't have anything clean to wear I swear, I-," he cut her off with hysterical laughter. "I'm just joking. Besides, Goku wouldn't know what to do with a woman even if she told him," Roshi laughed to himself and offered Kami some tea. She obliged and they sat around the table. "Sounds like you need to do a little shopping," the old hermit said as he sipped his tea. "I'll send you and the boy to town, we'll need more groceries with that lunatic around." Just then Goku came flying through the front door and into the kitchen. "So... hungry..." he panted digging through the refrigerator. "Boy!" The old man shouted and jumped up. "Don't eat all my food, you hear me?" He smacked Goku and pushed him out of the kitchen and into the bathroom. "Go take a shower, you and the girl are going to town!" He slammed the door behind Goku.
Kami finished her tea and went upstairs to change back into the clothes she had showed up in, it would feel a little too weird to wear Goku's clothes into town. She took a deep breath and walked downstairs and met Goku out front. He turned to her with a big childlike smile. "You ready?" He asked. Kami smiled back and gave him a nod. "Hey nimbus!" Goku shouted into the sky, catching Kami by surprise. Not long later, a small cloud flew down from the sky and stopped right in front of them. "It would be faster to take the nimbus," Goku said to himself, focused. "Hey," he quickly turned back to Kami. "Are you pure at heart?" Kami was taken aback. "...pure at heart?" She questioned, what would he mean by that? Why is he asking? "Well you see, you can only ride the nimbus cloud if you're pure at heart. It won't let you otherwise," Goku explained with an unsure smile and his hand behind his head. Kami was even more confused than before! Pure at heart? How would a cloud know that anyway? "Well I guess the best way to know for sure is for you to jump on," Goku broke the silence. Kami looked at him, almost scared. "Don't worry, I'll catch you if you fall," Goku laughed. Through all the strange things Kami had seen in the last few days, this was for sure the strangest. Well, I have nothing to lose, she thought as she jumped up on the cloud, eyes closed. But to her surprise- nothing happened. Kami sat on the cloud, looking at Goku expecting him to say something. But to her surprise again- nothing. He just jumped on the cloud and shouted, "hold on!"
As they flew through the air Kami felt feelings she never had before. Everything was beautiful and exhilarating. The ocean beneath them flowed to its own rhythm. She could see the waves crashing on each other with an unbelievable brilliance. She felt free. Goku turned to her. "Most people who try can't ride nimbus," he said, impressed. "Even Bulma can't ride it." He turned back to face front. Kami couldn't even speak. Everything was so amazing from up in the clouds, it was like she was experiencing the world from a birds eye view and she loved it. She looked at Goku, who looked back and smiled. Kami quickly looked away, avoiding his gaze, and looked back down at the world beneath them. The view was amazing, and it was even better seeing it with Goku.
Once they made their way to town, Kami went to find some new clothes while Goku went grocery shopping. Kami walked into the shop and grabbed almost everything she could find in her size to go try on. She stood in the mirror, trying to figure out what clothes would make sense for her new life. What would Goku like? She got flustered. No, she thought. I can't let myself think like that. Goku is a friend. Kami took a deep breath and brought her clothes to the shopkeeper and made her purchases. She walked outside and took a seat on a bench near the grocery shop. Why did she feel so weird? Why did she care what clothes Goku might like on her? Kami felt uncomfortable with her newfound emotions- but she didn't hate it. She leaned her head back and closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. She thought of her past life, and of her new life. She thought of this new place. She thought of Goku.
"Hey Kami," she heard a familiar voice call to her as she quickly opened her eyes and looked forward. It was Goku. "Ready to go? I'm hungry," he said as he smiled and put his hand on his tummy. Kami smiled and nodded as they walked out of town and he called back his nimbus. The ride back to Roshi's island was mostly silent, but it was peaceful. Kami was more than ready to leave her old life behind, and she was happy it was for this one.
