Kami needed to step away and get some fresh air after that last match. She had no idea what the next one will entail, and she honestly couldn't care less. All she cared about in that moment was getting away from the bustling crowd, and finding Goku if she could. Kami ran into the bathroom and splashed water on her face. She stood in front of the mirror, propping herself up with her hands on the counter. She felt weak and her skin was clammy. She let her head drop and her eyes close as she took a deep breath. When she exhaled, she threw herself into the nearest stall and threw up immediately. Kami sat on the cold floor leaning against the inside of the stall and looked up into the light. She felt better, but not great. I have to find Goku, she thought as she forced herself to get up and wash out her mouth in the sink. She splashed water on her cold, pale face once more before leaving the restroom on a mission.

Kami ran over to the building where the preliminary matches had been held, which was just on the side of the arena opposite of the crowd. This has to be where the all stay while the other fights are happening, she thought as she found the entrance door. The door was open, but there was a man standing out front, obviously guarding the entrance. "No entry unless you're fighting," the man said in a monotone voice without making eye contact. "Sir, you don't understand," Kami started trying to plead with him. "It's an emergency," she lied. He looked down at her. "What kind," he asked again, monotone. Kami's face got hot. What is she supposed to say? Her eyes dart beyond the guard inside the building. "Uh, you see," she started, trying to buy time. The guard rolled his eyes. "No entry unless you're fighting," he said once more. There, she thought as she spotted Goku. "There!" She shouted. The guard repeated himself once more and started to push Kami away from the entrance. "Goku!" She shouted in panic. "Goku!" The guard pushed her away and turned around to shut the door. Just before it closed, she could see Goku turn around and they made eye contact as the door closed. "Goku!" She called once more, nearly falling to the ground in defeat. Kami brought her hand up to her mouth as she slowly turned around to walk away, the guard staring at her waiting for her to leave. She could feel her heart sink once more as reality set in. What would you say to him anyway? She thought as she faced the ground. She could hear the announcer in the distance. "The next match will begin shortly, would Hero and Junior make their way to the arena please?" Kami blinked hard trying to push down her feelings as she slowly started walking away. Damn. So close. She thought. I should get back to Bulma and everyone. Kami took a deep breath and picked up the pace. As she walked, she felt someone grab her shoulder from behind and she quickly spun around. "Hey," the familiar voice said before she could see who it was.

It was Goku. "I was calling your name, but I guess you didn't hear me," he said as he smiled and threw his hand behind his head. Kami couldn't speak. "Hey are you ok?" He asked, looking her in the eyes with his mouth slightly open and his smile mostly gone. Still she couldn't speak. What're you gonna say? You can't just say nothing, she thought. "Well," she started, barely keeping it together. "Hey it's ok, if you don't feel like talking," Goku said back, not in his usual cheerful voice. "No, it's not that," Kami forced herself to look into his eyes. "I just- I don't know what to say. I had to find you, but, I don't have anything to say I guess," she finally said, feeling completely stupid as she looked back at the ground. "I should let you get back, I'm sure you want to watch the next match from the start," she said, wanting to look him in the eye, but completely unable. "Yeah you're right, I do want to watch the match," Goku said, unintentionally shoving a metaphorical dagger into her heart. "But I won't be able to focus," he continued, "if you're upset with me," he said more softly than before. Kami's eyes shot up to meet his. "Goku I," she started, her heart sinking even deeper than before. "I'm not upset with you," she tried to reassure him, but it didn't seem to work. Kami took a deep breath, clenched her hands, and forced herself to speak. "I was never upset with you, I just got scared and worried about you during your last match, and I didn't know how to tell you, and I didn't know why I needed to- but I needed to see you," she said her words as quickly as possible so she didn't have time to think or stop herself. He was still silent and her eyes were still closed. After all that she half expected him to not be there when she opened her eyes. She forced herself to open them, to see a smirking Goku standing in front of her with his arms crossed. This only embarrassed her more. "Hey I get it, you're not upset, you just care about me," he said with a laugh. Kami could feel her face getting red again. I'm gonna puke, she thought, her heart now racing. "I care about you too," Goku said as he put his hands on his hips and smiled with his eyes closed. Kami was at a loss for words. Again. "Well I should get back in there, I think the match is gonna start soon," Goku said as he looked her in the eyes. Kami nodded her head and forced herself to smile. Goku started to walk away. "Hey Goku," Kami called after him, her voice barely steady. He turned back around to face her. "Be careful," she said, referring to his next battle in the finals. He smiled. "Don't worry about me, I'll be just fine," he laughed and walked back into the building so he could go watch the match. Kami watched him walk inside before she turned to walk herself back to their group at the front. I really need to pull it together, Kami thought as she stood in line to get some water, still unsteady.
