Kami continued to live at the Kame house for the next two months with Roshi, Puar, Oolong and Goku. She decided to pay back the old man letting her live at his house by cooking each meal- which proved to be quite the undertaking with Goku around. Grocery shopping was a twice a week chore, and he could eat as much as ten hungry adults at least! It became clear that Goku was looking forward to the next tournament of power. He seemed more serious when talking about the tournament, as if it was life or death. She'd gotten to know Goku pretty well over the last two months, she even got to meet Bulma, who Goku talked very highly of. Kami liked Bulma. She seemed very confident in herself, and her boyfriend Yamcha, who Kami hadn't gotten to meet yet. From what Bulma says, Yamcha sounds like he should be stronger than even Goku- but that was hard to believe. Bulma seemed to be dramatic, which lined up with what Goku and Roshi said about her.
The weeks turned into days as the tournament approached, and Goku trained harder each day. Just two days before the tournament a few unfamiliar faces showed up at Roshi's house as Kami prepared lunch. "Master Roshi," the boy with long dark hair and a scar on his face said as they all walked in the house and bowed. There were four of them. One, tall and muscular with three eyes. One was much shorter and bald, but muscular like the first. One, short and childlike with red cheeks and a cute little hat. And the last one was who Kami assumed to be Yamcha. He was the one who spoke. Roshi bowed back and they all entered the living room and shut the door behind them. "Kami," Roshi said as he turned to her in the kitchen. Kami put down the dish she was holding and wiped her hands on her apron as she walked toward them in the living room. Kami gave a bow and smiled at the strangers as she stood back up. "You must be Yamcha. Bulma has told me a ton about you," Kami said as she shook Yamcha's hand. "But I'm sorry, I don't know who the rest of you are," Kami said nervously. The tall one introduced himself as Tien, and introduced the others as Chiaotzu and Krillin. "Nice to meet you," Kami said with a smile, still nervous. "So Goku's back?" Yamcha asked, breaking the silence. Roshi nodded. Kami was confused, back from where? Kami's face must've shown her confusion, because after that Krillin told her an unbelievable and amazing story of these so called dragon balls and how they brought him, Roshi, and Chiaotzu back to life just a few months ago. Goku had been to visit Korin's tower and ended up training with someone named Popo for three years in order to restore the dragon balls. Before that there was an evil being named King Piccolo who killed everyone, Kami could barely keep up. All of this was much different from the life she had lived before. Everything seemed so normal to these people, but it was mystical to her. What an interesting culture shock, she thought. Something new and exciting seemed to happen each day in this new land.
Just then Goku burst through the door, sweating and panting. "So... hungry..." he could barely get the words out. Kami ran back into the kitchen to dish up the lunch she had been working on. "I think I made enough for you all to join us, depending on how much Goku eats," Kami joked as she handed plates to everyone. They all sat around the table and enjoyed a meal together, knowing they would end up fighting each other at the tournament that was now just two days away. An ominous peace loomed over the small island.
