My mirror hung from inside my closet, it was my mirror even as a child, however the figure standing in it was far from a child. I was impressed to say the least, coming from a girl who can barely stand to be out of sweatpants for more than an hour.
"Did I tell or did I tell you?" I jumped, surprised at the smug voice coming from the door of my bedroom. Jinx was leaning against the door frame effortlessly casual, her arms crossed over her chest. "Jesus Jinx," I muttered. Jinx, as always, was stunning with her ombre hair and long legs. Jinx made her way over to me, her heels obnoxiously loud, and wrapped her arm around me. "Damn, I'd fuck us, " she said proudly as she gazed into the mirror before guiding me towards my bedroom door. "We're leaving before you change your mind." She pulled my out of my room, and dragged me down the stairs.
I grabbed my red purse off the table, and watched as Jinx fist pumped the air. "I can't believe your going to actually do this!" I rolled my eyes, "Don't get excited, I only have a birthday once a year."
"Yeah but what about holidays? St. Patrick's Day? New Year's? Easter? Christmas? Mother's Day? This is just the beginning Kenny!" She asked frantically waving her hands.
"You party on Mother's Day?"
She faked a horrified look and gasped, "YOU DON'T?" We then erupted in laughter, and exited our shared apartment room arms linked together. I locked the door with a swift turn of the wrist, and confidently walked down the hallway as if it were my runaway.
"And pose!" I put my hand on my hip and kissed to an invisible crowd, with Jinx chuckling in the background. My modeling was a inside joke of ours, created from Jinx's long legs. "How did I meet you again?" She asked in between spurts of laughter.
I made a sharp left, and turned into an opened elevator. I held the door for Jinx, as she slowly jogged into the elevator beside me. I jabbed the button reading, 'lobby' and within a few minutes we were parading through the lobby, waving to the girl behind the counter. The lobby has always been a bland, tasteless room of blah. The wallpaper used to be a light yellow, but after years of exposure to sunlight it turned a light shade of gray, and the artificial leather on the chairs were cracking.
I opened the door for Jinx, and she curtsied, before speeding off to find her car. Falcon, Jinx's car, was a old red Nissan with orange and yellow spray-painted trying to depict flames. Jinx had sworn up and down every time I asked about it, that it was the previous owner's artistic effort and not her own, but I knew her too well.
I made my way across the parking lot, a slight hop in my step indicating my excitement. I cracked another smile as Jinx reached her car and waved her hands frantically, begging for me too hurry. Hand signals were a big part of Jinx's personality, she had once said that without her hands she would have no other expressive part of her body except for her eyebrows, and she would need to clip them before 'putting them in the spotlight'.
I picked up my pace, and reached the car. Jinx's agitated sigh was audible even though she was already in the car. I pulled open the door, sat down, pulled on my seatbelt, and Jinx hit the gas. I felt my heart race, and I let out a yelp of happiness.
