"Bite Me" {Angst?}

Kokichi cautiously opened the door to the abandoned home he'd been residing in for the past 3 months. He looked around with both hope and caution in his mind. After a few minutes of scanning the home, as he did every day upon return, he sighed and put his knife back in his makeshift holster.

He went to what used to be the kitchen and unwrapped what little food he could find that day: some bread and a few Pantas he'd found completely untouched in a grocery store.

I'm going to have to move somewhere else soon... I'll starve if I stay here much longer...

Kokichi hesitantly shook the thought away- he still had one thing to accomplish before he either moved or died: find his beloved. They had gotten split up in the midst of everyone's panic during "the beginning of the end". Since then, Kokichi had been thriving on his own, spending every available moment of every day searching high and low for the one he loved.

He's looking for me too, right..? Yeah... I know he is....

Suddenly, a loud banging began from the front door. He paused and slowly set down the bottle of Panta that he had left. He put a hand on the handle of his knife and stood up, taking small steps toward the banging sound, the loud sudden noise making him flinch every time it occurred.

He put his free hand on the doorknob, and quickly swung it open, leaping backward in case whatever was out there lunged at him.

Once he saw what had been banging on his door, his heart filled with intense grief. And yet, for some reason, there was also a relief.

There at his door, stood Shuichi Saihara, his face pale and his eyes devoid of life. A bite-mark-like gash was bleeding out on his arm; he was a zombie. He had become the very thing Kokichi had sworn to protect him from.

Shuichi began walking towards him. Kokichi snapped back to his senses, and his expression clouded with concern.

"Oh, Shu..." he said softly. "Your arm is bleeding."

Carefully, he lured Shuichi upstairs to the second bedroom. Once they both got there, he swiftly got behind Shuichi and shut the door. The banging resumed, and Kokichi sighed a bit.

Oh, the trouble Shumai gets himself into...

He skipped back downstairs, humming a pleasant tune as he raided through his own first-aid. He got some bandages and disinfectants and went back upstairs. Carefully, he used his knife to carve a hole in the door- large enough to reach through, but not enough to escape through. Immediately, Shuichi's arms reached through it trying fruitlessly to reach the violette, who smiled to himself and began to disinfect and bandage his lover's injured arm carefully.

He finished bandaging and smiled a bit. He crouched down to peek at Shuichi through the hole. Shuichi looked at his arm, then back at Kokichi blankly.

"You remember me, right, Shumai?" he said kindly. Shuichi didn't respond. He frowned. "We've done lots, you and me. We climbed the side of that ferris wheel one time. You were so scared I would fall, and I told you that I was an expert climber when I was small. That was a lie, obviously, but I think it eased your nerves a little..."

Shuichi continued to stare at him, and though his eyes lacked any emotion or life at all, they were still golden and beautiful to Kokichi.

"When we finally got all the way up there, the view was so beautiful. All the stars in the sky. You said Momota-chan would've loved to see it. How rude of you it was to bring up a friend on our romantic date~!" he tried teasing, hoping, praying desperately to see some sort of flicker of emotion in the eyes of his blue-haired beloved, if even for just a second. That way, he could have some sliver of hope that Shuichi was still there somewhere.

     Still nothing.

Kokichi sighed in defeat. "Well, I'll have to go get more food, since I'm scavenging for two now. And now that you're here, I can move to another place with more food! Does that sound good?"

Shuichi didn't respond, yet again, so Kokichi just told himself that Shuichi had nodded and smiled that smile he'd die for again and again, and given him a warm, comforting embrace.

T I M E S K I P

It had been over a year, and almost every zombie left on Earth had been eradicated. Grieving families had hesitantly turned in their infected relatives, who were then killed, swiftly and painlessly. It had been declared that there was not and would never be a cure for the infected, and the best decision- to protect the remaining society- was to kill the infected.

Kokichi returned to his home- his permanent one- dropping his heavy winter coat at the door, no longer bothering to pick it up at any point besides in the morning when he left for his half-time job. He grabbed a sandwich from the fridge and headed upstairs, walking down the hallway until he got to a certain door.

He stopped and put a hand on the doorknob, all hope of seeing something different than Shuichi sitting absentmindedly on the floor gone from his thoughts. He opened the door and was greeted with the same sight he saw upon coming home every day, his lover sitting on the ground, staring blankly at the door. Over time, Shuichi had stopped trying to attack Kokichi, and just accepted the food he was fed three times every day for the past year and a half.

No matter how strapped for cash Kokichi was, or how hungry he became, he always fed Shuichi before himself. This often meant that the short violette ate very little every day, seeing as he was far from wealthy. There wasn't one day that went by where Shuichi was left unfed.

"You look cold, love. Here..." he walked in and gave the sandwich to Shuichi, who began to eat it while Kokichi grabbed a blanket from off the bed and wrapped it around him. He smiled a bit.

"Now for something important. I've been wanting to do this for a while now, and I think now is the best time to do it." he declared softly, taking a seat in front of Shuichi, who took the final bite of the sandwich and looked up at him. "Can you do something for me, Shu-Shu?"

     Shuichi stared at him.

     Kokichi smiled.

"Okay," he rolled up his sleeve. Shuichi's attention was directed to his pale, thin arm, and he stared at it hungrily. "I know, you want this more than some dumb sandwiches every day, right? Well..."

He scootched closer to Shuichi, who kept his dulled eyes on his arm. "I want you to take me. I don't wanna do this without... without you anymore. So if you do this one thing for me- just this one thing- then maybe we can be happy together forever. 'Cause I can't kill you, I won't kill you... but I just can't live this way anymore, because you aren't really here with me."

Kokichi moved his arm up to Shuichi's mouth. Unable to resist anymore, the ravenette quickly bit him, humming a bit in satisfaction as he tasted the blood on his canines while they sank into Kokichi's arm.

Within hours, Kokichi and Shuichi had joined each other in this broken afterlife and began an entirely new plague of infection and grief much alike to the one barely any years ago. When a survivor appeared to shoot one, the other pulled him away and they continued on their way.

This spread of infection was never cured, and the Earth became a wasteland inhabited by zombies.
