Lucy
It all started this morning when I walked through the halls of my grand house on the way to my father's office. It was risky enough just interrupting him from his work.
He has a bit of a temper... but right now, that didn't matter. I have a reason for interrupting him today.
As I approached my father's office my determination sided and nervousness coursed through my body. With each step closer and closer to those big wooden doors, I began to take slower steps and soon came to a stop just a few feet away.
Why are you being like this? I scolded myself, clenching my fists.
Be confident, it's time you confronted him! Sure, he ignores you normally, has a short temper, and never allows you to do anything unless it's study the business he is dealing with and practice being a lady for the future when he arranges a marriage you don't really want... but, still. Be confident, Lucy!
"Wow, my brain is not helping me right now." I muttered. I took a slow, deep breath and relaxed...a little.
I started walking towards the doors and made a halt in front of them. I rose my hand and knocked then began speaking right after knowing my father doesn't like having to ask questions and wait when being disturbed.
"Excuse me, father. It's Lucy, may I come in?"
As a silent pause came between my questions, I bit my lip in anticipation, but sighed in relief when he answered me.
"Yes, you may."
I grabbed the gold door handle, and pushed it forward, slipping through the narrow entryway I made for myself. I closed the door behind me and stood with fake confidence. Inside, I was terrified.
This is my father... he won't listen to me. I'm crazy for doing this... Doubt filled my mind, but I kept going.
With the sound of my heels clicking on the floor beneath me as I walked the only sound filling the room, I gathered my words in my head. I stopped in front of his desk, looking at him as he looked at me with clear annoyance. I gulped and and shifted my weight a little.
"What could be so important that you would have the audacity to interrupt me while I am working, Lucy?" He asked.
I have the words in my head, but I can't say them. I scold myself internally for being so quiet and nervous around him. "I.. I'm.."
"What is it? Do not waste my time!"
"I was.. Uhm.. Father, I want to go out into the city."
He stared at me as if I had seven heads and called myself a blue flying cat that could talk. He leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms.
"What? What brought this on, Lucy? You've never wanted to go out into Magnolia before today."
He's... He's listening to me! I cheered mentally and suddenly my confidence was coming back.
"I've always wanted to go out into the city, father."
"Why today of all days? You know I have an important meeting with a Duke from another kingdom today. I said don't waste my time, and here you are asking silly questions!"
"But, father!" I exclaimed, my confidence completely tarnished.
"Lucy, the answer is no. You have no experience in the outside world, what makes you think I would let you go out in the city?"
"Let the best bodyguards take me." I suggested then mentally facepalmed.
"What?"
"If you let Jared and what's-his-face take me out into the city, then you won't have anything to worry about."
