I awoke to the person next to me shaking me awake.
My eyes fluttered open to the bustling of passengers, in a rush to exit the airplane.
I thanked the girl next to me who woke me up, and she smiled in return.
She had pretty dark brown hair that cut in soft layers around her face.
Her eyes were also a shade of deep chocolate brown.
Freckles decorated her nose and upper cheek area, and she had her ears pierced twice.
"Im Aubree," i stuck my hand out to her.
"Mackenzie," She said back and shook my hand.
Since we were some of the last people on the plane, she waited for me as i gathered up my few bags.
"Do you want to go to Starbucks with me?" i asked her, and she nodded gratefully.
On the way to Starbucks, i texted my mom that the plane had landed and i needed to be picked up.
"I have some time until my mom gets here," i said.
"So why were you on the plane by yourself?"
she asked me, and i took a deep breath.
"Do you watch American Idol?"
She wrinkled her nose and replied, "Ive watched a few episodes. Why?"
"My ex-boyfriend Daniel is currently on the show, and im coming home because he didnt want me there anymore," I said quietly.
Mackenzie's eyes widened, "Im sorry."
i just shrugged.
The starbucks was pretty in the airport, it looked more modern.
we both ordered small mocha frappucinos.
We walked with our drinks to the front entrance and talked some more.
We also exchanged numbers.
She told me about her mom and dad divorcing, and her mom moving here.
"Im kind of sad about leaving my friends and stuff, but its kind of exciting," she told me.
"What school are you going to?" i asked her.
"Union High School," she replied, and a smile grew on my face excitedly.
"Thats where i go!" i exclaimed.
It quited down until she held her phone up to me and asked, "Is this your ex boyfriend?"
It was a picture of Daniel during Hollywood week.
I squeezed my eyes shut for a moment before opening them and replying, "Yeah, thats him."
The ache of missing him was slowly healing.
"Hes cute," She commented.
i clenched my teeth, "I know."
Realizing what she just said, she apologized, "Sorry."
"Its okay."
I took a deep breath again before asking about her new house and the area she lived in.
We also found out that we lived only two doors down from each other.
"Wow, this is crazy," i said smiling.
"I know! But im glad," she said.
My mom texted me that she arrived at the airport, and i hugged Kenzie goodbye and told her to text me when she got back to her house.
I climbed into our car, a red honda accord, after putting my bags in the trunk.
"Hi, Aubree," she simply said before starting the car.
Not even an 'i miss you'?
Not even a 'how was your time there'?
"Daniel and i broke up," i blurted out five minutes into the car ride.
Her face softened and she placed her hand on mine.
"Oh, Aubree," she said then paused, "Do you need anything?"
i shook my head and blinked quickly. I have had enough crying for a while.
I turned on the radio, and Uptown Funk came on.
AGAIN.
A G A I N.
Again, there was no one to sing it with me.
No one to act like a fool with.
I mumbled the lyrics to myself before tweeting, 'I need someone to sing Uptown Funk with.:('
A couple minutes later, Daniel tweeted, 'Uptown Funk gonna give it to you,'
I smiled slightly to myself and tilted my head.
Was that his way of 'singing' it with me?
My smile faded as i thought about the look of heartbreak on his face after i pulled away from Trevor.
He couldnt possibly have aimed that tweet toward me. Not after what i did.
We pulled into my driveway, and i scrambled out of my car, eager to get inside and to my own room.
I said hi to my dad before rushing upstairs.
I flopped down on my bed and inhaled the scent of my house.
I didnt realize how homesick i was until i got here.
i watched tv for a little bit before i got a text from Mackenzie,
'Im home. Wanna come over?'
i smiled to myself before replying with
'Yeaaaa on my way'
"IM GOING TO MACKENZIES," I yelled before slamming the door.
They didnt even ask, "Whos Mackenzie?"
Ha.
I breathed in the fresh air as i walked along the sidewalk.
It felt so much more different than California.
i knocked twice on her door and texted her that i was at her house.
Her house was really big!
A tall woman with a short haircut answered the door.
"You must be Aubree!" She smiled and shook my hand.
"Thats me," i smiled back.
She told me the way to Kenzie's room and i let myself in.
"Kenz! The big K!" i exclaimed jokingly and she laughed.
"Whats red and white and goes up and down?"
She laughed.
"Uh, what?" i asked.
"A tomato in an elevator!" She rolled around, cracking up.
It was such a bad joke that i laughed too.
The rest of the night consisted of us laughing, mean girls, and pizza.
It was great.
