20.- Epilogue

10 YEARS LATER...

I awoke to the sound of little feet scampering in the hallway, not noticing that the place beside me in bed was empty.
"Shit, she crawled out of bed again," i muttered as i threw off the blankets and raced to the hallway, nearly tripping over our dog Pepper.
I opened the door to little Dani running near the door, but turning to me once she saw me.
She threw her little arms around my legs and squeezed them tightly, "Mommy!"
i lifted her up into my arms, "Hello, sunshine."
"Hmm, i wonder where Dani went." i heard down the hallway.
"Im hiding from Daddy," She struggled out of my arms and grabbed my hand so i could hide with her.
She moved as quickly as she could to hide on the other side of my bed.
I held her in my lap and saw as her eyes widened as she shrieked, "You found us, Daddy!"
Dani lifted her arms in the air to be picked up by her father.
Once she was off my lap, i picked myself up to give my husband a hug.
"Good morning, beautiful," He smiled and kissed my lips softly.
"Hey," i said softly before saying, "Why are you up so early?"
"She escaped from bed again, and wouldnt fall back to sleep so we played hide and seek," he explained.
"Daddy, can you make pancakes?" Dani smiled sweetly.
"Sure, go downstairs and we'll be right there," He kissed the top of her head and put her down.
She ran downstairs, with Pepper following close behind her.
I sat down on the bed, and he sat down beside me.
"Shes supposed to sleep late!" i exclaimed and playfully hit him.
He threw his hands up in defense, "Hey, the kid wanted to play!"
I laughed and kissed his cheek before walking downstairs to join my daughter at the counter.
"Pancakes?" She asked hopefully.
"Daddy will make them in a little bit," i said to her.
Dani clutched a little dog stuffed animal in her hands.
"Did Daddy buy that for you?" i referred to the dog.
She nodded vigorously and giggled, "Yesterday, on the way home. I named him Pepper, just like our Pepper!"
I laughed with her as Daniel made his way down the stairs to make pancakes.
Each time he flipped one, Dani giggled and clapped her little hands with delight.
Eventually, Daniel had to drive Dani to daycare while he headed to work.
I kissed his lips before saying, "I love you,"
"I love you too."
