Nico di Angelo sat on the bench inside the gymnasium. His P.E clothes felt loose on him, they were his sister's old ones. The shirt had ‘di Angelo’ written in a thick black Sharpie, he had simply crossed out the other name and replaced it with his own. Nico watched as teens played volleyball, it was simply free time today because the classes were still getting in order. It was only the second week.
“Hey Ghost King, catch!” A girl shouted, hurdling a volleyball at Nico with a powerful serve. Nico tried moving to the side slightly to avoid getting hit but the ball quickly made an impact on his stomach.“I am going to kill–”
“Don’t finish that sentence, Nico.” Coach Hedge said, overhearing him. Nico let out a cough instead, holding onto his stomach with one arm and throwing the volleyball to the side with the other.
“Can’t take a hit, Nico?” Clarisse La Rue said. Even though she was the same height as Nico, she was muscular and much more intimidating.
“Can’t shut up, Clarisse?” He muttered, mocking the girl. She flinched forward only to be stopped when someone placed a hand on her wrist.
“No need to fight. We’re all just trying to get through the day.” Will said, smiling. She glared at Nico before scoffing and rejoining her volleyball game. “I keep finding you, like everywhere.” He said, sitting down next to Nico.
“Yeah, it must suck for you,” Nico said, the pain in his stomach was fading slowly but still somewhat prominent.
“We should talk more, you seem cool.” Will said, “I’ll give you my number in the locker room, ‘K?” Will said, looking him in the eyes.
Nico froze for a moment, hesitating on his answer. At the worst, he could just throw away the paper after Will walks away. He nodded.
—
“Reyna, I think—” Nico was cut off by Reyna letting out a loud groan. She was focused on something on her laptop when she had answered the call. “What’s wrong?”
“Remember Octavian from middle school?”
“The one who called me a dog that needed to be put down, was mean to Percy, blackmailed and manipulated Hazel, and got you kicked off the ASB club because you apparently ‘threatened’ him? Obviously.”“Yeah, him. Percy won’t shut up about Octavian cyber-bullying him and so I tried to intervene and now Octavian wants to fight me.”
Nico sighed, holding the small piece of paper Will had handed him after P.E in his hand, he stared at it, unsure of what to do with it, it had Sunshine's name and number. He placed it off to the side for the time being and focused on Reyna's issue. “Isn’t he eighteen?”
“Yeah, two years older than me. He could get arrested.”
“Don’t waste your time on him. He’s not worth it.”
She slammed her head onto her desk. “I’ve tried blocking him but he just keeps making new accounts, he is so annoying. I transferred to CHBH because of him and now he’s trying to ruin my reputation just like at JHS.”
“Nothing could ruin the adoptive daughter of Artemis’ reputation.”
“Stop being helpful.” She mumbled, slamming her laptop shut. “Anyway, why’d you call?” Nico grabbed the small piece of paper and held it in front of his camera. Her black eyes widened and her lips formed into a bright smile. “Is that Will Solace’s phone number?!”
“No, it’s another blonde-haired, blue-eyed Lord of Light.” He said sarcastically.
“Don’t fuck with me like that! Dude tell me everything.” She said throwing herself onto the bed.
