Chapter Fourteen
I woke up the next morning still feeling a little tired. I’m still trying to get used to the time change. I’m not used to waking up when it’s actually morning.
I showered and dressed in some dark shorts and a black ruffle tank top. I slipped on some black flats and went to get breakfast.
I walked downstairs and just like the day before, people stopped to stare at me. This time I ignored them and went into the kitchen where everyone else was getting their food.
Two older women were working in the kitchen. I stood in line as I waited to get my food. When I was up, a woman looked at me for a moment before fixing a plate and handing it to me. Was she really debating on whether to give me food or not? Why can’t these people just accept me?
I took the food into the living room and found a seat on the floor since all of the chairs were taken. I ate my food in silence, not making eye contact with anyone else.
“Hey vamp girl.” Someone said. A shadow covered me and I looked up to see the girl with spiky hair towering over me. “Let’s get some things straight. Just because you have Caesar on your side, doesn’t mean we’ll like you. You sympathize with our sworn enemies. To us you’re one of them. And don’t think for a second that we’ll allow you to stay here without consequences.”
“I’m human, okay? Get that through your head. I’m not some type of supernatural being. I like being human and I’m staying this way. I don’t really care whether you like me or not. It’s not my job to please you. Now can I eat my breakfast in peace please?”
She let out a low growl before walking away. I want to fit in here, but I’m not going out of my way to make everyone like me. I just want to blend in.
After I finished my breakfast, I took the plate into the kitchen and stacked it with the other dirty plates. I then left the large house, deciding to take a walk. I walked through the large field and watched as the wolves trained. Some of their training activities looked dangerous, but I guess they’ll be fine. They wouldn’t deliberately hurt someone with the battle coming up soon.
I jumped when my vision suddenly became dark. I felt the palms of hands on my face.
“Guess who.” The person whispered.
I smiled, knowing exactly who it was. A weird feeling came to my stomach as I felt his breath on my neck.
“Uh… hm….” I said just to annoy him.
“Think long and hard about it.” He whispered, his breath tickling my ear.
“Is it Caesar?”
He uncovered my eyes and I turned to see him with a huge smile on his face. His hair hung in his face like usual. He wore dark pants and a grey shirt.
“Where have you been?” He asked me.
“Sleeping. I’m still on vampire time remember?”
“Well maybe I should give you a wakeup call.” He smirked and I smiled in return.I saw Keith approaching us and began to feel nervous. Knowing that he doesn’t want me around here makes it harder to be around him.
“Caesar.” Keith got his attention.
“Hey, what’s up?”
“I need you to stakeout tonight. We need to know if they have anymore battle plans.”
“Uh…” Caesar glanced at me.
“Don’t’ even say it. She is not staking out with you. She’s a sympathizer. She could lead you into a trap.”
