Chapter Ten
I stared into Demetri’s sapphire eyes trying to figure out what to tell him about where I’ve been.
“It’s cold.” I said, wrapping my arms around myself and rubbing my shoulders. “We should go inside.”
“Don’t change the subject Ellie. Why do you smell like a wolf?”
“I can’t tell you.” I admitted.
“What?” I noticed he was getting angrier. “As your prince I command you to tell me.”
“As my prince? And here I thought you actually cared.”
I pushed pass him and the guards and made my way inside the palace. One minute Demetri cares about me and the next I’m his slave again. I’m already having doubts about him after the story Caesar told me. This is only making things worse.I was halfway down the hall when Demetri appeared in front of me. He gave me an apologetic look.
“I’m sorry.” He apologized. “I just want answers. I was worried about you and it angered me to see that no one cared that you were missing.”
“Well I’m just a slave.”“You’re more than that to me.” I smiled. “Now please tell me where you’ve been?”
“Did you ever kill two children and their parents?” I asked him.
He gave me a confused look. I know it’s a strange question to ask and it doesn’t answer his question, but I want to know the truth before I make any big decisions about our relationship.
“What is this about?”
“I met a guy, and he told me a tragic story about his past. One where you kill his younger brother and sister and then his parents.”
“Who was this guy?”
“Just answer the question.”
He looked at the ground and then back up at me. He sighed before nodding. I frowned. I was hoping that Caesar was wrong.“They were werewolves. The less there are, the better.” He explained.
“They were children Demetri.”
“They were monsters. I did what I had to. The only regret I have is letting one get away.”“I’m glad he got away. Caesar is a good guy and he didn’t deserve to be scarred the way he was.”
Realization crossed Demetri’s face. He furrowed his eyebrows and his features became threatening.
“You were with them.” He stated. “You were with those creatures just as I thought. You turned against us?”
“No. They captured me. I had no choice to go there.”
“But you sympathize with them?”
“It’s not that. I just got a chance to know a couple of them. They’re not all bad.”
“Listen to yourself! You’re sympathizing with those shape shifters. They turn on a full moon and attack anything in their path. All they do is kill.”“And what do you do? You kill. You treat us humans like dogs. At least the pack fed me a meal and socialized with me.”
I could see the anger in Demetri’s eyes. He may not like what I just said but it’s the truth. I was treated better with the pack.
“You’d rather be with them than me?”
“At this point I’m really not sure.”“I refuse to lose you to them.”
“You don’t really have a choice in the matter.”
“Demetri, is there a problem?” Someone asked from behind me.
I turned to see the king. I immediately curtsied then stood up straight with my hands clasped behind my back.
“No father.” Demetri answered.
