Chapter Twenty-Three

I can’t believe Caesar found his mate. And who knew it would be Jules of all people. What would have happened she married Demetri? Would this have ever happened? Jules and Caesar look cute together. They seem to fit. I know Jules doesn’t know what’s going on, but I hope Caesar can help to understand.

“Let’s leave them alone.” I told Demetri, taking hold of his hand.

“Leave her alone with that shape shifter?” Demetri asked. “I don’t think so.”

“She’s his mate. He won’t hurt her. Come on.”

I pulled Demetri inside and shut the door behind us. I don’t want us to be a distraction for them.

“They’ll be fine.” I reassured Demetri. “I promise.”

“I believe you.” He grinned. He leaned down and gave me a light kiss. When he pulled away I smiled.

“Demetri, we’re going to be together forever right?” I asked him, looking into his Sapphire eyes. “Until the day I die?”

A slight, almost unnoticeable frown came to his face. He intertwined our fingers together.

“You could be like me. I could turn you, if you want.”

“Do you want me to be like you?”
“No. At least not yet.” He grinned. “I know we haven’t discussed this yet, but I want to marry you and have kids. That can‘t happen if I turned you now.”

Instantly a smile came to my face. I never knew he wanted to be married, or have kids. And the best part is, he wants to marry me.

“Was that a proposal?” I asked him.

“No. When I propose, it’ll be exciting and special.”

It makes me happy that he plans on proposing. It means I don’t have to worry about him changing his mind and leaving me. I love Demetri and I don’t know what I’d do without him.

Today is the day Demetri will tell everyone that we’re together. King Lucien is throwing a ball and everyone is invited, including the townsfolk. I’m extremely nervous. I’m afraid that the vampires will be angry, or one of Demetri’s many fan girls will attack me.

“Ellie?” I heard Demetri asked groggily. His arm wrapped around me and he pulled me close. “Are you okay?” He nuzzled my neck.

“What if people don’t approve?” I asked him.

“Everything will be fine. Go back to sleep, it’s still morning.”

I moved away from Demetri since I felt his temperature dropping, then I drifted off to sleep.

I woke again saw it was night again. I looked beside me to see that Demetri was gone.

“Demetri?” I called into the dark room.

“I’m here.” I heard him say somewhere in the darkness.

Suddenly a hand was on mine and I saw Demetri’s sapphire eyes. He climbed on the bed beside me and pulled me into his arms.

“Is everything okay?” He asked me.

“Yeah, besides being nervous about the ball.”

“You’re still stressing about that?” He placed a kiss on my forehead. “Everyone will love you, just as I do. The elders gave us permission, therefore they shouldn’t hate you for a crime we’re omitted from.”
