Chapter Seven

Just with him smiling at me, I couldn't be happier. The look in his eyes makes my heart melt. But how can a peasant like me be allowed to be with a royal like him?

"But this can't work." I said. He frowned. "I mean, you're a royal and I'm just a servant."

"It'll be our little secret." he placed at gentle kiss on my forehead. "It'll work."

"Promise?"

"I promise." He gently caressed my cheek, and looked at me with bright eyes.

I heard footsteps approaching and noticed Demetri distance himself from me. I stood slightly behind him and lowered my head. The Princess rounded the corner with Edna by her side.

"Hello brother." Princess Rose greeted. "I see father has assigned you a slave as well."

"You're not the only one that get things." He said matter-of-factly.

"Well of course not. I'm just sorry you get the eavesdropper ."

Demetri shrugged. "It's not so bad." He looked back at me and gave an almost unnoticeable grin.

I looked at Edna. Her face looks so pale and dirty. I just saw her a few minutes ago and she looks even more drained than before.

"Nicholai has been wandering the palace. He says he waiting to talk to you. He's become a little aggravating so I suggest you talk to him so he'll leave."

"I'm on it."

"I'll see you at the second half of the meeting, yes?"

"Save me a seat."

Princess Rose continued on her way with Edna behind her. I want to reach out and tell Edna to stay with me, but I know I'd get in trouble for it. Once the Princess and Edna were gone, Demetri grabbed my hand and led me down the hall.

We entered his room and he quickly closed the door behind him. I furrowed my brows as a worried look appeared on Demetri's face.

"What's wrong?" I asked him.

"Nicholai is going to come here again to talk to me. I have a feeling he'll show up when I leave for the other meeting. I don't want him near you."

"Then what..."

"When I leave, you should go walk around outside in the garden. Tell the guards you have my permission."

"Okay. When do you leave?"

"In a few minutes. Until then, why don't you clean yourself up? There's a fresh dress waiting in the bathroom."

I did as Demetri said. I walk into his walk-in closet and notice it's about the size of his room. I enter through the slightly ajar door between two walls of closet space and stood in the middle of the huge bathroom. The walls are a golden brown color. A golden chandelier hung in the middle of the ceiling. The floor was a beige tile. Counter space took up one wall along with a giant mirror. The bathtub was deep, almost like a pool with a shower head hanging above it.

I started the shower and stripped down. Once the water was warm enough, I climbed in.

I sighed as the warm water touched my skin. It's been too long since I've had a shower. I let the warm water run over my face and down my body.

How many girls can say they've showered in such a luxurious bathroom? I've been here for three days and my life has already changed drastically. Demetri has chosen me off all people to be with after just three short days. I never Ina million years would have thought a royal would choose me, a poor peasant girl with not even a cent to my name. Why me out of all those girls out there begging for his attention? What makes me so special?
