"II have to go home. My stepmother will kill me if I'm not home soon," I said, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear as I checked to see if I had everything. Cell phone? Check. Keys? Check. Wallet? Also check.

"Stepmother? Is it a coincidence with the name? Let me guess, stepsisters are in too?" he laughed and got up. But his laughter stopped when I confirmed. "Oh lord-" he laughed incredibly and walked alongside me as we made our way to the exit. Liam was a full head taller and I wasn't quite sure how to feel. "Who did you visit? If I may ask." he asked when we got to the exit and I stopped for a moment.

"My father. He died of cancer a few years ago... and you?"

"I visited my older brother. He was in the military and died in Iran. Honorable and proud."

"My condolences.. He must have been young.."

"Twenty-two."

"I'm sorry for you," I said quietly and looked at his nose, which was no longer bleeding. "Unfortunately, I have to go now. And that because of the cleaning-"

"I'll be in touch, don't worry." Liam said with a warm smile and I nodded, looking at the floor. "Then.. take care and get home safe." With these words he turned around and waved again just before he walked away in the dark.

Liam.. the name seemed so familiar to me but I didn't know where from. In any case, he somehow saved the evening for me. But now I really should go home!

When I entered the house, only the light in the living room was on and I tried to turn the key in the door as quietly as possible, but someone beat me to it. With a bang, the door flew open and Natalie stood in the doorway with an unenthusiastic expression.

"Where have you been so long?" she asked me directly, looking down at me as I stared at the floor. Do you think we all don't need sleep and can wait for you forever?"

"I was with dad.. A-and fell asleep there.. I'm sorry.." I explained, but it probably wasn't enough. Natalie held out her palm and I clutched my cell phone. I needed it.. Liam said he'll be in touch about the cleaning..

But none of that would help, so I gave her my phone and she let me in. Such a witch. I hated her!

"To your room. Tomorrow is a long day for you." With the words she walked back into the living room and I slowly moved my legs up the stairs to my room.

I spent the night thinking about why Thomas left me. I also waited for Emily to get in touch as promised so I could tell her about the day. About the breakup and about Liam and how I probably broke his nose.. but she didn't call me, didn't text me or see her Instagram story anymore.. did she block me? No this can not be. Eventually I sat down and called her but voice mail answered right away.

"There's sure to be a good answer for that.." I told myself, although I could sense something was wrong. I just didn't know what.

I must have actually fallen asleep crying at some point, because when my alarm clock rang in the morning, I realized that I wasn't in the castle and was being pampered like a queen. No, I was in my little room, the sun was beating through my window right in my face, and there was screaming from downstairs. Well, good morning too.. Sighing in desperation, I fell back onto my pillows and closed my eyes for a brief moment.

"Cinderella!" Natalie yelled from downstairs and I heard her footsteps coming up. Shit! In a flash I jumped up completely exhausted and grabbed the next clothes to put them on. My hair was always neat, which I'm really grateful for was in moments like this. I rubbed my face in front of the mirror and at the last second threw myself into my chair at the desk with my school books still open. "Cinderella-!", my stepmother yanked open the door and her View went straight to the bed where I was no longer lying.

"Good morning," I said, trying to sound awake as much as possible. "I wanted to finish my homework before I clean the house. Then you'll have some peace in the morning," I said, smiling as Natalie lifted her chin, straightened up again and nodded slightly.

"Yes, that's good, Cinda. Do that. We'll be gone soon and probably won't be back until evening. You know your job, don't you?"

"Yes Ma'am.", I nodded and waited until Natalie closed the door again. As soon as she was gone, I took a deep breath and wiped my sweat away.
