I woke up to someone screaming. Only did I realize who it was after someone put their hand over my mouth.

“Shhh. Calm down.” The voice was male and sweet.

“Colton?” The hand slid away and I saw through the darkness a nod. I pulled myself into a fetal position. “Where am I?” I asked. I heard Colton sit down on the edge of my bed and let out a huge sigh.

“Camp Half-Blood.” I could see that he was looking up at the ceiling. I wondered, if he could see through the darkness, how I looked like.

“What’s a half-blood?”

“The correct term is demigod.” His head still faced toward the ceiling but his eyes were now on me.

“Then why am I here? I am perfectly human.” Colton looked down at the ground and shook his head. “What?”

“You never met your real parents, right?” I nodded. “Then how do you know if they were both human?” I stared at him for a moment.

“I guess I don’t.” Colton nodded.

“The moment I arrived at Greenwood I could tell that there was another demigod, but I was never sure on who. I didn’t fully realize who until I took you out of the water.”

“Out of the water?” I asked. I was slightly confused.

“Memory fussy?”

“I guess.” Colton chuckled.

“Do you remember going to the cabin in Montauk?” I nodded. “Do you remember Matt throwing you into the water?” I shook my head. “Well he did. You got upset and ran down to the beach. The others thought you were going to swim without them. Matt threw you in for fun but Eliza told us you didn’t know how to swim.”

“I don’t.”

“You do now.”

“What?”

“When I went after you, you were right at the surface, swimming, or more like treading. Sometime while you were underwater you learned how to swim.” A voice whispered in my head. My lady. I nodded. “You remember?” I gave a slight nod.

“I remember trying to stay at the surface but then I gave up, because I couldn’t swim. As I sank a figure. . . .a shadow. . . .started circling me. I thought. . . .I thought it was a shark. But. . . .but. . . .it wasn’t. It was this strange creature. Something that surely wasn’t real. And. . . .it talked. It talked to me. I talked back. But. . . .my lungs. . . .they didn’t fill with water. I was. . . .I was breathing underwater. Then I remember you pulling me out.” I said as my memory slowly returned to me.

“When I pulled you out, you were completely dry.”

“What?” Colton nodded.

“I told you to will yourself to make yourself wet.”

“Did it work?” He nodded again. “How is it possible?” Colton waited.

“Demigods have powers similar to their parents. Who ever your parent is. . . .they allowed you to stay dry.”

“Who is my parent?”

“We can only guess.”

“Why?”

“Gods are supposed to claim their children when they are thirteen. However, that rule was only made last summer. The ones who weren’t claimed yet have been getting claimed faster. Now that we know you are for sure a demigod your parent will claim you any day now.”

“Colton, if you’re here. . . .does that mean you are one too? A demigod, I mean.” Colton nodded. His face gave away the fact that who ever his parent was, he wasn’t exactly happy about it.
