"And we are done!" Jenna exclaimed and collapsed onto a wooden stool with a loud sigh.
I wiped invisible sweat off my forehead and placed my hands on my hips for a few seconds. "I almost thought we wouldn't make it," I said with a sigh of my own. "That was quite the challenge."
We were finally done with the food. Our other co-workers had helped us out a great deal this morning so now all we needed to do was help load the stuff when the delivery person arrived to collect them.
Both of us were beyond exhausted this morning and even after having completed the order we still had to catch up on our duties for the day's shift, even with the help that we got. Thankfully, Saturdays are more lazy days since the breakfast crowd wasn't as huge, so the menu isn't usually as long as that for the regular weekday.
Since I'd had to pick Jenna up that morning for work, I decided to make extra breakfast to carry some for her. Funny enough, she had the same idea and made me a breakfast wrap which I devoured within a few minutes when we took our fifteen minute break.
"I know right? Good thing we're off tomorrow - "
"I'm sure this company doesn't pay the staff to sit around and gossip."
Jenna and I stared at each other before turning to the source of the voice.
Fucking Jonathan Shmeck.
"Funny. I thought this was the breakroom," I pointed to the sign printed on the door. "And as far as I know, we're allowed to do as we please on our break."
Jenna pursed her lips to stop laughter from erupting out of her and I turned around to continue enjoying my slice of cake.
"You've got a very sharp mouth, Miss Grace," he stated seriously.
I licked the icing of my spoon slowly and nodded my head, back still facing him.
I could see Jenna's curious stare out of the corner of my eyes and I mouthed, "I'll explain later."
Perhaps I was being a tad bit rude, but I didn't give a rat's ass. The man had blatantly undressed me with his eyes, twice. Horrified by that thought, I tried to think of something else.
Images of a hazel eyed Greek God made a slide show behind my closed eyelids and I couldn't help the small smile that took over my face. I probably looked crazy as hell but I missed him. We rarely texted during the second week that he was away and I was already getting accustomed to our sort of routine.
Both excited and scared shitless of getting too attached too quickly, I hoped that those feelings which awakened within a matter of weeks, were mutual.
Jonathan's annoying voice put a stop to my thoughts.
"Have you issued an invoice?"
"Yes we have, sir," came Jenna's response.
"Right. Well the items for this morning's order need to be double checked now and loaded. The vehicle is out front," he stated firmly.
"Ok. Right this way," she replied again. It sort of pissed me off that she was just going along with this man's rude behavior. Then again, she wasn't like me who could simply quit working and still live comfortably for years.
