"I didn't run away. I just went independent." The man, player 101, laughed at what she said. "Independent?" He looked away for a second and then threw his fist at the woman, player 67. But she managed to dodge his attack, swiftly, which angered player 101 to grab her jacket and knock her down. As player 67 tried to get up, player 101 simply grabbed her jacket and threw her across the floor. He then ran up to her and kicked her stomach. As she clenched her stomach, player 101 grabbed her hair and said, "You went independent? Are you Yu Gwan-sun or what? Go out and wave a flag, then." Player 67 just looked up at him. "Oh, right. You're from the North, so wave the North Korean flag." But as he put his other hand on player 67's hair, Kyung-mi interrupted the battle by pushing the man off player 67.
Kyung-mi yelled at the man, "It's not right for a grown man to fight a younger woman. Grow up! If she wants to go independent then good for her, you must respect her wishes!" After she said that, Kyung-mi went to check on the young woman. "Hey, are you alright. He didn't hurt you too bad, did he?" Before player 67 could say a thing, the man ran to Kyung-mi and pushed her to the ground. Kyung-mi immediately stood up and looked at player 101. The man simply asked, "Who the hell are you?" Kyung-mi fixed her hair and said, "Me? Well, I'm Kim Kyung-mi from Ssangmun-dong." "Hey Miss. Ssangmun-dong." "Yes?" The man then walked to Kyung-mi. "I'm not done with this wench." Kyung-mi stood her ground and said, "Well I'm sorry Mr what-not, but I can't help but help a poor woman in danger because of a low-self esteem man as yourself to hurt other women to make yourself feel better." "You little-" As he was about to punch Kyung-mi, an alarm went off and the two steel doors to the mini stage opened to reveal workers and one boss.
As they walked in, everyone couldn't help but stare at them. The boss walked in front of the workers towards the end of the stage and said, "I would like to extend a hearty welcome to you all. Everyone here will participate in six different games over six days. Those who win all six games will get a handsome cash prize." It was quiet for a moment, before a player yelled out, "How are we supposed to believe you? You suddenly put us to sleep, take our phones and wallets away, then bring us to this mysterious place. Now you show up saying you'll pay us handsomely for playing a few games? Do you expect us to believe that?" The boss immediately responded, "We reluctantly took those measures to maintain our confidentiality bringing you here. We'll return everything once the games are over." A woman then yelled, "How come you are wearing those masks?" "We do not disclose the faces and personal information of our staff to the participants. It's a measure we take for the fairness of games and privacy. Please understand." Then a man immediately said, "I don't trust a word you just said. You lured, kidnapped, and locked us up. You make all kinds of excuses to keep yourself hidden after all those illegal actions. Give us one good reason why we should trust you." The boss stood there for a moment. "Player 218, Cho Sang-woo." The boss pressed a button on the remote she had which made the lights in the room dim and the Tv turned on showing Sang-woo playing ddakji with the businessman. "Age, 36. Former team leader of Team Two at Joy Investments."
Kyung-mi couldn't believe Sang-woo was here in this room. His mother said he was abroad, what was he doing here back in Korea so soon? "Siphoned money from his clients, then invested in derivatives and future options with it and failed. Current loss, 650 million won." Then it showed another person on the screen, it was the woman who asked about the mask. "Player 107, Kim Mi-ok, 540 million won in debt." Then it changed to the man who was the first to ask a question. "Player 118, Oh Yeong-uk, 1,02 billion won in debt. All of you in this room are living on the edge, with debts you just can't pay off. When we first went to see you, none of you trusted us. But as you know, we played a game and gave you money as promised. So everyone here trusted us and volunteered to participate in this game of your own free will. I'll give you one last chance to choose." The boss stopped talking for a moment, but the room was nothing but silence.
"Will you go back to living your lousy life being chased by your creditors? Or will you grab the last opportunity we're offering here?" There was lots of murmuring among the crowd of players, but one yelled out, "What kind of games are we playing?" In which the boss responded, "In order to play fair, we cannot disclose any information on the games ahead of time." Right after he answered the question, Kyung-mi immediately yelled, "Excuse me. Just how much is the prize money?"
The boss clicked his remote and with music blasting the room, the ceiling opened up revealing low-dimmed yellow lights and a large glass piggy bank. "Your prize money will be accumulated in the piggy bank after every game. We will disclose the amount to everyone after the first game is over. If you do not wish to participate, please let us know now.
