Audrey at top

It was Sunday and I was sitting in the main room with my headphones on eyes closed just relaxing that was until I felt a small and sharp pain in my side I yelped out in surprise more than pain I opened my eyes to see Nova with a cheeky smile.

"Will, you, stop that," I said throwing a cushion at her that she caught with ease.

"No it's too fun," Nova said.

"Not for me," I said laying back down.

"Well anyway, what are you listening to," Nova asked as she sat next to my head.

"Spotify," I said.

"I ment the song and or band," Nova said.

"Na Na Na by my chemical romance," I said.

"Sweet they're one of my favourites but have you heard of these guys," Nova said as she grabbed my phone and looked up a song.

"Yes of course I have heard I Don't Care by Fall Out Boy," I said.

The two of us talked and joked about our favourite bands and songs until Holly came into the room yammering away about something stupid as she often did with Audrey smiling behind her. She came over and joined our conversation as Audrey headed into the bathroom to take a shower by the sound of it I was thinking of a way to find out what she is thinking then I had an idea.

"Hey so are you two going to be around when the other school gets here," Holly said.

"No, we talked to the head honcho here and we told him we would feel better sitting this one out," Nova said.

"Oh, why is that" Holly said.

"Well I found out that the school visiting us is nothing but guys and well I haven't had the best past experience with them," Nova said.

"And I can finally show my sexuality freely and I don't wanna have to act like some fake treatment is changing who I am," I said.

"Oh okay guess I will be flying solo," Holly said.

"Not a hundred per cent solo you got Audrey," I said gesturing to Audrey behind her.

"Yeah but no offence I doubt someone who can't speak will be much help," Holly said.

Audrey shook her head in a none taken way.

"Well we wish you luck," I said.

"Let's hope it's enough" Nova said.

The next day me and Nova watched from our window as the bus of boys from this gay conversion camp arrived as the boys climbed off the bus some were angry others sad and the rest were happy strangely. As they were ushered in Nova scowled and went back to the bedroom I followed her in and sat next to her on her bed in an attempt to comfort her or keep her company.

"What's your worst fear," Nova asked her sounding a little broken.

"Spiders mostly can't stand the eight-legged buggers," I said getting a small chuckle from Nova.

"Well, my biggest fear is my father he is the one thing that can actually make me shake in fear," Nova said.

"Well my dad is not exactly winning any prizes either," I said.

"Why is that" Nova asked.

"Well I say dad but he is my stepdad he is the reason I was sent here all because he caught me kissing a girl but the worst thing about him is he keeps on saying that he raised me better he's been my stepdad for 5 years that is not long enough to raise me, my real dad raised me enough," I said.

"So you have a girlfriend" Nova said.

"Not anymore," I said.

"Well then that gives you time to find someone else here," Nova said.

"Yeah that's the plan, but if you are okay talking about it what happened with your dad," I said.

"Well he hated the fact that I liked girls so much so that he almost forced me to sleep with some guy at my school thankfully a few of my friends stopped it before it actually happened so I was sent here," Nova said

"Oh my god that's terrible who the fuck does that," I said.

"My dad clearly," Nova said.

"Asshole, so is that why you hate boys," I asked.

"Not really but it did solidify my hatred," Nova said.

"Thanks for telling me it can't be easy for you to talk about that," I said as I placed my hand gently on her hand.

Nova smiled and rested her head on my shoulder and we just stayed there until we heard Holly and Audrey returning we got up and went to talk to them about the boys.

"So how was it," I asked.

"The boys or the day in general" Holly said.

"Both I guess," I said.

"Well the day was almost the same as the boys from the other school had to conform to our rules about keeping the genders separate during class time, however when it got to lunchtime it was kind of like..." Holly said not knowing how to finish.

I gave Audrey a notepad and she pulled out the pad I gave her to talk to us with then after handing it to me I read it out loud.

"It was like first contact between humans and aliens where the aliens had been put through terrible experiments to make them appear more human... that sound about right," I said looking up at Holly.

"Yeah, that about sums it up," Holly said.

"Oh Audrey honey please start talking again soon because this is gold," I said handing the notepad back to her.

"Oh hey um, there was this girl Jaz that was asking for you we told her the cover story about you being sick since we were in mixed company but I was wondering how she knew you," Holly asked.

"Oh she is just a girl from my math class she was probably going to ask for help with some math problem she told me she was bad but she is horrendously bad," I said.

"Really how bad is horrendously bad," Holly asked.

"Well she is good at things alone but it's when you get to adding two types of mathematical operations in the same formula, and I can see that none of you know what that means... Okay look at it this way she can do long addition but it is when she has to do something like 2+3+2x4 like in algebra that is where she falls short," I said.

"Wow sounds like she needs all the help she can get," Nova said.

"Yeah that is why I am doing my best to help her but as it turns out I am just as bad at teaching math as she is at understanding it," I said.

"I could help with teaching her," Holly said.

"Really you'd do that," I said.

"Yeah I used to teach my little brother and sister maths so she should be no trouble," Holly said.

"Thanks, Holly," I said hugging her.
