Everyone moved at once to get to their assigned stations, Lisa striding confidently up the steep stairs to the helm. She briefly glanced back behind the ship to see The Devil's Heart unfurling her sails.
She couldn't make much out as to what was happening on the desk, but she was able to see the slight shape of a captain's hat looking right back at her.
It felt like Lisa's heart was about to burst with how excited she was. She gave a brief nod to Jennie's tiny figure before turning to the beautifully decorated helm.
Nichkun might be a terrible man, but he certainly knew how to decorate his ship- although maybe this was Jennie's doing, considering she mentioned refurbishing almost the entire ship.
Carefully lifting her hand to grab the top handle of the wheel, the sails billowed out right as her fingers wrapped around the black wood.
Power swelled through Lisa as she looked out onto the desk of her new ship, grasp firm as she squared her shoulders and spread her feet.
Lisa's cheeks hurt from how much she was smiling, but she couldn't possibly stop herself as she glanced back at Jennie's fleet to see them starting to move. As if Jennie could feel her gaze, The Oryx's Revenge gave a brief lurch forward as the current started to push them to move.
Silently thanking her lover, Lisa turned back with a deep breath. The ship was set to sail, the wind catching the black sails perfectly. The ship had been positioned parallel to the shore, so Lisa threw the wheel to spin starboard, sharply turning out towards sea.
The feeling of the ship moving, the sound of the wheel turning, the smell of the breeze that blew across the desk... It was all so nostalgic, as if it was her first time on a ship.
She stopped the spinning wheel with a powerful hand as soon as they turned into position, straightening it as she looked to the right to see Jennie's fleet sailing a few hundred yards away.
The Devil's Heart led the fleet, The Oryx's Revenge sailing next to a crimson red ship named Burning Rose, Lisa unsure if she should pull next to Jennie's ship. After about twenty minutes Kara noticed that she was starting to pick up speed, sailing passed the Burning Rose, towards the front of the fleet with The Devil's Heart.
A hawk simultaneously flew down onto the deck of Lisa's ship, landing on the messenger perch built on the helm's deck. Stepping away from the wheel, Lisa pulled a small scroll from the hawk's leg, instantly recognizing Jennie's curling hand writing when she unrolled it.
"Your place is next to me, Captain Manoban. Always and forever. –Athena"
Lisa smiled, her heart swelling as she tucked the message into her pocket. She looked up to see The Oryx's Revenge pulling up right next to The Devil's Heart, close enough that she could see her crew down below. While her ship had more decks, making it taller, Jennie's ship was considerably longer by at least three cannon columns.
Moving closer to the banister that ran along the entire ship, Lisa rested her hands on the wide wood to see Jennie maybe ten yards away doing the exact same. The smile that had only just faded from Lisa's face split across her cheeks once again as she looked at the love of her life.
She pulled the message from her pocket, gesturing to it. "I'll keep that in mind for the future, then," Lisa called loudly across the waves between them. She couldn't exactly hear Jennie laugh- maybe just a little over the wind –but she could see her toss her head back, teeth flashing brilliantly.
