Soon after Thomas calmed down he fell asleep. Newt didn't want to wake him up but he also couldn't carry him so he decided to do the first option. "Tommy wake up". Newt said inbetween kisses that he planted all over his face. "Five more minutes". Thomas said and put his head onto Newts shoulder again. To annoy Thomas Newt stood up and let Thomas head fall onto the wood of the bench. "Bitch". He muttered sleepily. Despite his tiredness he followed Newt. Newt wanted to let Thomas sleep alone this night so he went to the hammocks. Thomas laid down and as Newt wanted to walk away after saying goodnight, Thomas pulled him back and onto the hammock with him. "Goodnight Newt". Thomas said and kissed his cheek. "Goodnight Tommy". After Newt said that he heard light snores coming from Thomas. As Newt knew that Thomas was asleep he grabbed his hand and whispered in his ear. "I love you". And with that Newt fell into a dreamless sleep.

The next morning Minho saw the two boys cuddling and decided to ruin their sleep. He grabbed the hammock and turned it so both of them fell onto the ground. Newt fell on top of Thomas and let out a grunt. Thomas quickly woke up and spotted Minho. "I was sleeping you shank". "Yea and I wasn't". After that sentence Thomas showed Minho his middle finger. Minho fake gasped and pointed at Thomas. "How dare you". Minho fake cried. Newt was watching the dilemma while rolling on the ground laughing.
After talking a bit they went to the fire to get something to eat. Vince and Jorge stood in front of everyone as they finished their food. "Like we said yesterday we will talk about the jobs. The jobs will be the same as they were for some of you in the Glade. The people that were runners are gonna get supplies from cities nearby. We will list who has which job." Vince grabbed a piece of paper from his pocket and began assigning people their jobs."
The last job said were the runners that got the supplies. Newts name still hasn't been called and he started getting worried. 'Are they gonna make me a runner?' 'Why hasn't Vince said my name yet?'. His thoughts were interrupted by Vince saying his name. He was a runner back in the maze but only before the accident. And now he should run again. The difference is that this job was far more dangerous because of the cranks.
As Newt looked at Thomas next to him he was already looking at Newt with a face full of worry. He didn't know why Newt had his limp but he has one and that was reason enough to not make him a runner.
When everyone left the fire and got to their work Newt and Thomas were still there. "Follow me". Newt said and stood up. Thomas followed him without hesitaiting. They made their way to a cliff and sat there. "I have to tell you something Tommy". Newt said and Thomas interrupted him. "You can't be a runner. It's far to dangerous and you have your limp". Thomas rambled until Newt put his hand over his mouth to stop him. "I wanted to tell you how I got my limp. I...back in the maze I was a runner. But I felt like shit. I was there in the glade with this maze around us. There was no escape and I tought I didn't have a reason to live anymore. I jumped of the walls of the maze but my leg got entangled in an ivy and since then I had the limp. Minho found me and he promised me not to tell anyone and he didn't. You are the first person I ever told what happened.
Thomas didn't know what to say and Newt understood that. He just laid his head onto Thomas's shoulder. They talked a bit and got comfortabe. "Are you sure you will be okay as a runner?". Thomas asked after Newt told him that he wanted to try. Newt nodded with a small smile on his face. "But if you have anything that worries you, you have to tell me or the others". It was clear that Thomas was worried but Newt reassured him that it will be ok.
They went to sleep early because the next day would be their first day as runners in the save haven.
