I GUESS I'M IN LOVE - Clinton KaneThe pair has been retired from formal politics ever since Leon finished her term as the president of the Republic of the Philippines. Although, they would still go to rallies and have been such an advocate for all things equality and country, they've realised how much they've needed to rest, their children are already building their own lives and careers, it's now time for them to settle down.
What once was a Batangas rest house is now home for the two women.
Leon is busy reading by the dock, when suddenly she has the urge to pick up a topic they've never discussed for the longest time, "Reese, are you mad that we never got married?"
Therese, seated beside her, is keen on drinking her favourite beer, San Mig Light whilst reading her newspaper.
"Ha? Eh asawa naman kita regardless," Leon laughs at the response of her longtime partner, "tiyaka, I respect you and him, pati mga bata."
This is one of the many reasons why Therese captured Leon's heart. Her respect for the former president's family is beyond comparison—never jealous of her late husband. She even talks to him more than Leon does; she'd ask for advice and such, most especially when they fight.
Moreover, Therese is her children's bestest friend, too. They would confide in her about the complexities of their personal lives as if she had the magic wand of answers and cures.
"Pero alam mo, Love, in all seriousness," the former politician took a long, hard sip from her beer, "as long as I grow old with you, it doesn't matter, basta ikaw ang kasama kong tumanda."
"Tinagalog mo lang, Reese! Haynako."
"Sorry, 'yun din pala 'yun. Pero naalala mo ba nung unang nameet kita, nung pinakilala ka saakin ni Jeff?" Both women felt the air of nostalgia within the premises of the balcony by the sea.
Flashback...
"Hi, Atty. Sto. Tomas! Tinawag ako ni Sec. Jeff to meet you, it's an honour to have met you, Atty."
Leon blushed as she received a compliment from the talk of the town Akbayan representative. "Miss Therese, just call me Leon. And, ako 'yung dapat magsabi niyan, for all the things you've done and keep doing? It's an honour to meet The Therese Navarro,"
Therese laughed at how the lawyer addressed her, "Ay, just call me Therese, ikaw nga you want to be called Leon eh. Sa ibang setting lang ako pumapayag na tawaging miss."
The lawyer gave Therese a quizzical look, not getting what the lady she just met meant, only noticing her laugh and how it swept Leon away by the feet.
Present time...
"Ayun ba 'yung nagjoke ka about being called miss in another setting?" Therese laughed once again.
"Oo, pero hindi mo na-gets, buti nalang kasi ang cute mo kapag clueless ka."
"Alam mo... patay ka sa akin mamaya, Miss Therese." Leni smirked as she saw how abrupt Therese changed her reaction, "...but on a more serious note, crush na kita nun kasi ang ganda mo tumawa, kahit until now e, nung natawa ka naramdaman ko nanaman 'yung butterflies sa tiyan ko."
